Now, I’m pretty open to change. I understand that as the years go by, it just happens. Things evolve. I don’t expect new Lion O to sound like Larry Kenney. I don’t expect the Twins to sound like they did in the original show.
But the one thing I kinda hope? Is that Mumm-Ra still has a voice of a similar quality. Starscream/Cobra Commander, Skeletor and Mumm-Ra’s voices are the most iconic cartoon villains to me.
What about you guys? Anything you’re hoping for in specific?
when i watch a new toon i hope for one of two things, 1 that the plot is great and makes sense, 2 is that i hope that the voice acting is up to par with the best series in the past and whats out there, finally if the animation is really good that helps to
Tough call. I know it’s impossible to get all of the original voice cast back as they’re either too old or, in Earl Hammond and Peter Newman’s cases, dead. Getting Larry Kenny back though is a nice nod to both the old school fans and the original show; kind of like how it was getting Peter Cullen to voice Optimus Prime again in both the live action movies and Transformers: Prime, or Richard Hatch to play a recurring role in Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica.
We know Matt Mercer will be playing Tygra, and Kenney will be voicing Claudis, but the rest of the casting is still a mystery. Here’s just some wild speculation and/or wishful thinking on my part…
Panthro- Would like to hear Avery Brooks or Tony Todd. Second choices would be Keith David or Kevin Michael Richardson.
Slithe- I think Mark Hamill could provide an appropriately sleazy/slimy voice to this character. 
Grune- Hard to guess. Michael Ironside though is a great actor, and particularly good at playing heavies. He was phenomenal as Darkseid on both Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League. And I think his voice could lend the right amount of gravitas for the role.
Cheetara- Tara Strong is usually the go-to girl for characters like these. Not that I hate her. In fact, I like her. But I’d like to see someone else get a chance. If they can’t get her, they’ll probably either go with Grey DeLisle or Nika Futterman. A wild card could be Kari Wahlgren.
An actress whom I really would have liked to have seen in this role, though, would have been Ashley C. Williams, who starred in the independent Horror movie, The Human Centipede. And regardless of what anyone may have thought of that movie (I’ve seen it, and it really is as disturbing as they say and I would NOT want to see it again), she’s a phenomenal actress. She recently did a Fantasy musical you could take your kids to called Spellbound, where she displayed a wonderful singing voice.
WilyKat & Kit- I doubt they’ll get actual kids to do their voices. I think this time around they’ll go with a voice actress who’s skilled at doing kids’ voices. Probably Futterman, or maybe Candi Milo (she voiced Cheese on Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends).
Mumm-Ra- It’ll be really tough filling Earl Hammond’s shoes. I honestly couldn’t even begin to guess who they could get for that one. Whoever it will be, I just hope he’ll be good.

I’ve got dibs on calling Tony Todd for this btw. I called him back when they said they had narrowed the Panthro actor down to two people: one being a Star Trek alumn and another being a well known horror movie actor. This was before Mercer announced he was Tygra.

Someone suggested Welker for Mumm-Ra. I mean I’d like to hear a demo of him giving it a shot, but I just don’t see him having the same style voice to recreate the magic Hammond brought.
Actually now that you mentioned it, when I think of his voice for the Joker, I think he’s MUCH more suited to voice Jackalman. In fact, going back and listening to Kenny’s voice for Jackalman and Hamil’s voice for Joker, there’s quite a bit of similarity there. I think it would be a nice throwback voice for him.
It’d also be cool if they could bring Peter Newman back for a couple of guest nods like Hachiman or something like that.
I think they all need new VAs, the originals were fine for their time but those same voices just won’t fit in todays cartoons. So yeah I hope they sound fairly different and give their own take, I do like Lion-O’s father being voiced by Lion-O. Mumm-Ra is the only exception, he was excellent and would perfectly fit the voice of the new Mumm-Ra, sadly he passed away so that is not an option, that will be the only one that I will have a hard time adjusting to a new voice.
I’m really hoping we get Hachiman in at least one (If not more) eps as the series goes on.

That’s why I thought of Brooks and Todd (who did Star Trek, as well as being in the Candyman movies, among others). Now that I think of it, though, Michael Dorn wouldn’t be a bad choice either!

Most of them can be looked up on IMDB. I’m surprised you never heard of Ironside, though! He’s done a lot of stuff. Just a sampling of his other credits: the original V miniseries, Scanners, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, and the voice of Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell games.

I can’t either. And besides, Welker’s already re-voicing Megatron on Transformers: Prime.
I’m wondering if maybe they might want to try a different approach and go for a bit more of an understated performance? I just thought of Clancy Brown (Kurgan in the first Highlander, and the voice of Lex Luthor in the DCAU shows).
Another choice could be Edwin Neal. He’s done a lot of voice work, but he’s probably best remembered as the Hitchhiker character from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I’ve heard his stuff - particularly as Berg Katse for the English re-dub of the classic Anime Science Ninja Team Gatchaman - and he’s very good.

Yeah, that would be cool to hear him, Earle Hyman or Lynne Lipton come back for a guest role or a vocal cameo!

I should have been more clear, I’m not the source that broke that news that they were considering those two…I’m just the person on this message board that said the horror movie person they were considering was likely Tony Todd.
I wasn’t a source for anything other than being the first person on this board to call that. That’s what I meant by “I’ve got dibs” on that.
I found out about a Star Trek alumni might be the voice of Panthro on a Thundercats related Facebook page. My first thought was Avery Brooks from Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Here are three good actors via Strek Trek that could voice Panthro IMO:
Michael Dorn, Avery Brooks and Rick Worthy (assuming Panthro has a deep voice in the new series).
Mumm-ra’s voice is a challenging one..I am wondering who will assume the responsibility.

Cheetara - Laura Bailey in a tone similar to her Marlene from Blue Gender
Lion O - Mark Hilldreth, less Heero Yui from Gundam Wing and more Teery Bogard from Fatal Fury.
Tigra - Troy Baker. If you have ever seen Basilisk, he played genosuke. Although if he had something closer to his normal voice, it would be good IMO.
Pathro - R.Bruce Elliot is the only person I can think of and even then it doesn’t seem to fit. He is the hardest to cast to me.
