Argos catalogues part II!

I just got scans from the 1987 autumn/winter Argos catalogue! Many Thanks to David for scanning them for me!

Go here to see the scan:

The file is huge, so it might take a minute or so to load. Do you guys think I need to shrink it a bit and then re-upload it?

Well these pages are quite interesting because I thought they might have had the Cats Lair and Mumm-Ra’s Tomb playsets listed. Also strange how they only have 3 action figures (Lion-o, Mumm-Ra and Hammerhand) :eyepopping:

I’m really hoping to get a scan of the 1988 Argos catalogues if Thundercats do appear in that (which I’m assuming they do) Hopefully that has a page featuring more regular figures than just Mumm-Ra and Lion-o. I also have my fingers crossed that it has one or both playsets listed in it as well. Though seeing non of the playsets in the Argos catalogues so far, does back up my theory that the playsets were not readily available in the UK.

Another note of interest is the VHS video listed. They strangely have a pic of the Thundercats Volume 3 video (but if you check the item description is clearly states Volume 4!)

Well I can confirm that Argos did indeed supply a copy of Volume 4 (regardless of Volume 3 being pictured) You see, my VHS copy that I bought off Ebay a few years back has the Argos catalogue number sticker on the side of the case and it matches the catalogue number in the 1987 Argos catalogue. See the pic I took of my video case with the catologue number sticker below:

Also the prices have slightly fluctuated since 1986. The Thundertank and the Sword of Omens had both increased by 50 pence! I believe the figures and 2 vehicles (Nosediver and Skycutter) remained the same price.

I honestly love looking at this stuff, so I’m sure it will be very interesting content for our site viewers. Just have my fingers crossed now that I can get hold of more scans from Argos catalogues (most importantly the 1988 autumn/winter catalogue!)

Chris here…

This is fantastic, wonderful stuff, Neil! Is the “David” who supplied this stuff for you the friend you have who has autism, or is it another David?

In any event, this is fascinating material! Nice one!

Take care…

Nope, it’s another David! He bought this catalogue off Ebay the other day for ?13. I didn’t want to spend that much, so I just made out I had missed the end of the auction and was kicking myself. He told me that he bid toward the ?30 mark, so I would never have won it anyway if I had bid.

It was so great of him to scan me those pages since he had only just bought it. He seems to be a collector though, who wanted the catalogue as an whole rather than just the odd pages from it. So it made sense for him to win it. If I had bought it, I would have scanned the pages, then put it back up for sale.

The spring/summer catalogue from 1987 is currently listed on Ebay now for a buy it now price of ?24.99 :eyepopping: Personally I’d never pay that. Hopefully it won’t be bought and the seller will relist it for a cheaper and more realistic price.

I emailed the seller to ask if any Thundercats toys appear in it, but sadly they have not replied to my question :frowning:
