Hey guys,
Just sitting here at my house lounging around, ready to kill someone…I just got screwed, yet again, on eBay. This time, I bid on a figure only to have the seller end the auction early. This sort of stuff has been going on for so long. I’ve heard numerous stories from other people about so many problems they’ve encountered. I wish there was another site out there that was specifically geared toward action figures in general or something along those lines that would allow our specific community to buy/sell figures as well as communicate.
I know these forums have classifieds, but I wish there was a place for the entire collecting community to develop a steady place of buying or selling. There are many action figure sites for each of the different types of action figure collectibles and it would be nice to somehow combine them so we could feel like one big community. I believe this would reduce the chances of the sort of things that happen on eBay from occurring, since it would consist of a more focused group of people, and not just the masses who are trying to make a quick buck off of their old finds.
Leave the amateurs to Ebay. We need something more specific. Not to mention the fact that Ebay has, YET AGAIN, raised it’s prices across the board. So when you do try and sell something, you keep even less of the sale proceeds than ever before.
Now, I know there are trading and selling forums out there, but, I know I am not always interested in trading and with that, there are still people out to screw others. With the selling forums, I am sure many action figure sites have one, but I am talking about a more centralized location for maybe any/all action figure types. If I want a Thundercats figure today and a Transformers figure tomorrow, I would have to go to 2 separate sites. I am just rambling here but this is how I feel after the mess I just went through. What does everyone else here think? Your thoughts are always appreciated.
You didnt really get screwed, sure your not going to get the figure but you didnt pay for it either. I have had 1 bad transaction out of over a 100 transactions on ebay. Check peoples feedback and if something seems to good to be true just leave it alone. Just remember to be patient and eventually what your looking for will pop up. Just my 2 cents.
OK, I get your point, I guess in essence I didn’t get screwed because I am not out any money or anything like that but I am just sick of some of the workings of eBay and my main point was about potentially another site or something that is specific to action figures and can be more of a community for us to try an limit the things I spoke about in terms of getting screwed. What are your thoughts on that stuff?
I have to say that I love eBay. Its sort of like treasure hunting. Without eBay there is no way I could have amassed my collection of Thundercats.
I do agree with you though that it would be great if there were another place for people to sell their collectibles. Competition is always a good thing, and the more places people have to sell stuff, the more things get sold, and at cheaper cost to the seller too.
You could always check craigslist as an alternative to eBay. While I have had no luck finding vintage 80’s action figures on there, the site is really popular and you might just get lucky, espescially if you are in a big city.

My .002 cents: All eBay has to do is remove the bad apples from their site and things will probably go a lot better. 
I agree with you King Ryan but a good portion of the figures on ebay come from non collectors as well. So in a collectors only community we might miss out on some of the cool stuff that has been tucked away in someones attic for years. The Evil Bay definitely has its good and bad sides.

I don’t hate E-bay but i don’t like some of the way things are run there.
I didn’t know that a seller could end an auction early on E-bay…I thought once it was started that there wasn’t any changing anything until it was closed.
I’m glad you didn’t lose any money but I can very well understand and empathise with your feelings of disappointment in not getting your figure.
I guarantee you though just like another poster said if you wait what you want will eventually come up for sale.

While I am not a big fan of a seller ending an auction at the last minute, I do understand why it is permissible. For example a guy once listed a Thundercats Bengali as “Thunder Cats Ben gali”. Obviously due to separating the Thunder and Cats, as well as the Ben and Gali, he got a lot less attention to the auction, as was evident by the hit counter, and I think the thing was gonna sell for next to nothing (for a Bengali anyways).
He ended the auction early, re listed it correctly, and it sold for about $60.00 if I am not mistaken.
So I do see when it is the “right” thing to do being the seller and wanting the most for your items, if you made a mistake and want to correct it. On eBay, a wrong description can cost you $$$.
“Ben-Gali” is how the character’s name is originally spelled. But most people like me prefer to spell it “Bengali” because it looks more like a tiger’s designation and less like a human’s name. And I don’t think Bengali is as popular as Lion-O or Mumm-Ra. If the producers of ThunderCats had decided to break the 130-episode limit and make one more 13- episode installment, Bengali’s profile probably would have increased to the point where the figure would get more bids on eBay today.
