Any predictions or just what you’d like to see for the upcoming Anointment Trials episodes?
What we know for fact:
The anointment trials were split into 5 episodes in the original series in which Lion-O faced a different ThunderCat in each episode and then finally Mumm-Ra.
Episode 1: Panthro
Episode 2: Cheetara
Episode 3: ThunderKittens
Episode 4: Tygra
Episode 5: Mumm-Ra
The anointment trials in the new series will take place in only 2 episodes.
So, any predictions or things you hope to see?
I think perhaps they’ll drop Mumm-Ra out of the trials. I thought it was weird in the original series that he was required to defeat Mumm-Ra to be named true Lord of the ThunderCats. But of course they needed a bad guy again so they brought him back.
The tone of this new series, I’ll bet Mumm-Ra will not be a required fight for Lion-O in the trials. I do think he’ll probably face trials posed by each of the other ThunderCats though.
With Panthro - I’m guessing it won’t involve strength since the cat has no arms anymore. Maybe it’ll involve technology in some way since Panthro seems the most technological minded.
Unless… the trials take place inside the book of omens in which place the magic of the book might possible restore his arms while he’s in it.
With Cheetara - Maybe it will include speed, but somehow I don’t think dear ol’ dad Claudus could have beat her in a race if he wanted to. Perhaps he’ll be fighting her skills with the staff.
With the Kittens - I think it will all be cunning. They obviously don’t have their magic pellets like the kittens did in the OS, but they are tricky kids. Kit can use her flute on Lion-O and he may have to find a way to overcome it’s magic so that his mind can not be subdued.
With Tygra - I really hope it has to do with mind powers. They never developed this side of Tygra after it was revealed in the trials in the OS. I hope they develop them in the NS since I think all the fans wanted to see more of them in the OS. I hope they don’t decide that Tygra doesn’t have them in the NS. I would think that Tygra would be the last ThunderCat Lion-O has to face.
I do think it would be neat if the trials all took place in the Book of Omens. And I think it would make a lot of sense given the current storyline if they did.
As you said, I don’t think Mumm-Ra will figure into the new trials. At the time of the original series Luke Skywalker had just faced his father in Return of the Jedi, something he was told he needed to do in order to become a full Jedi. Even as a kid, I thought that Lion-O facing Mumm-Ra during his trials was influenced by this.
Also, I too am fairly certain that Tygra will be the final trial. However, as far as the others go, I am totally stumped.
Its probably going to be just him going up against Panthro, Cheetara, & Tygra in various tasks. I imagine Tygra would be the final challenge with Lion-O finally besting his brother.
I think it could be a more metaphysical type, sorta like in Avatar the Last Airbender when Aang unlocking the Chakra gates where Lion O must face a part of himself represented by (likely to do) with emotions attached to each, accomplishing each task by letting that part go.
Kit and Kat - Childhood innocence - going from cub to cat
Panthro - Guilt and failure to protect those following him - realizing not everything is his fault and he can’t take responsibility of others around him’s choices.
Cheetara - Love and Affection - letting go of personal attachment, taking on the mission and the kingdom of Thundara as a whole, the good of the many outweighs the good of the few and all that bla bla
Tygra: Worthiness - Proving that he is the one true Lord of the Thundercats, that he is the Lord Lion-O, not Tygra’s Little Brother Lion-O. That he doesn’t need to live up to Tygra’s standards, and in doing so shall surpass them.
Very hard to say as we have almost no clues what so ever of what COULD happen. Though i think it has something to do with the book and nothing about the other cats. In the OS they were supposed to TRAIN him which makes sense then that they are the one he has to beat to complete the trials.
In the NS the only link he has with his past is the Book/Sword that could help him be a better king/leader/lord. So i will “vote” for the book.
I think it’s going to be two Lion-O solo episodes, possibly inside the Book of Omens. At this point in the series, I don’t think Lion-O is susceptible to anything the others have to teach him, and it’s too early for him to beat the likes of Panthro and Cheetara without the Sword od Omens. So I think we can look forward to a couple of episodes of Lion-O having Lion-O-adventures.
I don’t see how this Lion-o could defeat these TCs… besides, despite Cheetara’s speed, the TCs haven’t been showcased as having a special ability like in the OS, which complemented each otehr’s and amde thema great team. That’s why I hope this time the trials aren’t against the TCs, but other way. The TCs might interfere to make them harder, but not be the actual rivals.
I hope the trials are like the original with Lion-o besting the others except Mummra of course. I think Panthro as strength, Cheetara as speed, the twins as cunning, and Tigra as the final one. Exactly what Tigra would symbolize I would say it would be will.
I don’t think he’ll actually physically battle or compete with any of the group (except maybe Tygra because Tygra will believe Lion-O can’t beat him ), but rather each of the Thundercats will set up some sorta obstacle course or test for him to complete. Something like Journey to the Tower of Omens, but Lion-O would have to do them all by himself without the sword.
i think jaga already made it clear he is the king, or lord of the thundercats. and along the way, he is kinda getting the hang of the sword. would have been cool that he would have had a trial type, but blasting mumm-ra through a wall, and chargeing at evrything ready to fight so easily, kinda voids the point of a trial. he even impressed the hard nosed panthro, by smashing driller!
i see your point balgus, but i never understood the trials in the is, they were cool episodes, but i didnt get the point, i guess he has to prove he is worthy of the title? he had already done that a few times defeating the mutants and things like that. if he wanted to see how he does without the sword, why not just spar, or train without it. the thing that gets me most, is that in the new school show he actualy has a contender to the crown in tygra, who if anything whee to happen tp lion-o, tygra would be the next suitible heir. in the old school, he was destined from the git go, and theres not really anyone else availible to be put through the trials other than lion-o. i mean, if he failed the trials, who would you expect to be next to gothrough the trials? i guess my point is, in the new show, it makes more sense for a trial. and it would be a new twist on the already strained relationship between lion-o and tygra.tygra does best lion-o in the first few episodes, and they constantly argue strategy. it does make sense for them to happen in the new school, but its really unnecessary. in both shows, in my opinion.:liono oh, and please dont think im trying to be right or start an argue meant, im just enjoying some healthy conversation about a show im really interested in.
I think it was more for ceremony and tradition. All the past Thundercat lords had to complete their own trials and it started on Lion-O’s birthday so they had a set date for it.
Also I don’t remember what episode it was, but Lion-O did once say in the OS that if something happened to him Tygra would become the next Lord because he was the head of the council or something.
And don’t worry as long as you’re not being a jerk or anything like that we welcome discussions.
that explains why they gave tygra a bigger role, and made him a prince and the adopted brother in the new series. i wonder how much more they are going to go into the trials, i hope it isnt lackluster, and i wonder if they will play it out that he cant use his sword, they havent hinted towards any thing concerning the trials yet, so im curious how they will introduce the actual trials.
