Advice on toy collecting

Hey everyone - okay, so I have a slowly growing collection of toys, I have about 30 used LJN toys, and am interested in maybe collecting the new lines. I’ve got all of the 4" toys on order, which I intend to let my son play with, as well as the classic 8" lion-o and tygra. I also have the SDCC Lion-o coming in the mail.

For the collectors items, I’m actually thinking of not opening the toys at all and putting them in acrylic cases. I work at a sign company - acrylic here is plentiful. Or, should I open them and keep them in the case? I want to keep them as mint as possible.

Suggestions? I’ve never done this before, and also want to make sure I’m not wasting my time on something that may not really matter 20 years later. I have 4 lion-o’s from the LJN collection as well, but they’re used - I have one complete red haired first edition though, but not sure it’s really worth doing anything with.

What do you mean it may not matter 20 years later?

Are you talking resale value? If so, then you’re collecting for the wrong reasons.

If it matters to you now, it might matter to you 20 years later from a nostalgiac standpoint.

from a resale standpoint, opening the figures is the worst thing you can do with them.

now, if you are an actual collector, then storage preferences are all yours. do you want to be able to display the individual figures? do you want to just box them up and revel in the fact that you have them? do you want to set up a large display room with carded figures hanging on all the walls?

the best method for storing them all comes down to what you plan to do with them.
