Is there an LJN maroon Lion-O, or are the maroon versions Childbro and Macplay? All the pics I can find of the maroon figs have those logos on the card. They have the olive chest like my figure, but mine came loose so I don’t know if there is a way to tell it’s origin
Some have an olive coloured body which is something to look out for. Can’t see any on the US eBay right now.
I’ve seen both versions sold in both countries. With figures changing hands I guess some figures are pretty well travelled. Just keep an eye out for the colour sceme you want, a majority of listings won’t say which version it is.

Just so y’all know. You have got my ocd tendency to get all is in super overdrive lmao. When I start dedicating my time to the comics I learned about variants and had to get them for a complete set so now I learn same concept for figures having variants. My mind has officially been blown. Lmao
The Maroon Lion-O is a bit tricky. Here’s a collage I made just to illustrate the differences
The first Lion-O is the Orange Hair one. This is pretty easy to spot. It came with the Orange Claw Shield and the Orange Sword of Omens.
The second Lion-O is the Red Hair one. It is the most common one. It came with the Red Claw Shield and the Red Sword of Omens.
The third is the real Maroon Hair Lion-O. It was made by LJN and looks very similar to the Red Hair Lion-O. It came with the Maroon Claw Shield and the Maroon Sword of Omens.
The fourth is the Childbro/Toy Options/Macplay/Olive Green Lion-O. It’s hair is dark maroon which is why people often mistake it as the Maroon Haired Lion-O. Some people call it the Brown Haired Lion-O because the Red is quite dark and deep. However, there are some ways to tell it apart from the true Maroon Hair Lion-O (No.3).
[INDENT]a) The fourth Lion-O came with RED Claw Shield and the RED Sword of Omens while the true Maroon one came with Maroon versions of both accessories
b) The fourth one was not made by LJN but was mostly available in Europe which is why it was on the Toy Options/Rainbow Toys and Childbro cards. Macplay merely put their sticker on either of these two cards.
c) The eyes of the fourth Lion-O are slightly different. It’s a bit hard to explain, but you can tell it apart from the LJN Lion-O if you place them side by side. The eyes are a bit protruding.
d) The fourth Lion-O’s head is made of light plastic and so when the Power ring is inserted in its back, the whole head kinda lights up, unlike the LJN figure whose only eyes light up.
e) The fourth Lion-O often has olive green torso. This is discoloration due to age and the quality of the orange used on the body.

The only thing that remains constant in all the Lion-O’s is the color of the Power Ring’s plastic which is bright red. So that is usually a good point of reference.
Also there were two variations of the LJN Red Hair Lion-O. One had a head made of orange plastic with the red hair painted on while the other had a head made of red plastic with the flesh part painted on.
And I haven’t even started talking about the foreign variations! LOL! :biggrin I hope this clears things up a bit.
Oh goodness im going to be taking 1 at a time. Lol I just hope I can figure the variations beyween u.s. And European since I plan on buying overseas for more expensive ones that are cheaper over there lol

I believe that was a Red Haired Rainbow Toys Lion-O.
That’s awesome. I recall going into town with my Mum and Dad to the supermarket and on the way they pulled in near the toy shop and my Dad went in and when he came out he handed Lion-O to me.
well…as hard as it is to find on its own, for an original. I would probably pay upwards of $40. beyond that, depends on how bad I need it, like if it were the last think I need to complete the collection or something.
