I forgot to post this when the Oscars aired hours ago. My bad.
But how did everyone enjoy the Oscars this year? Any predictions of yours come true and which films you thought derseved an award or didn’t?
Personally, I was very pleased to see that The Muppets won Muppet or a Man. But I was also hoping Transformers would win Best Visual Effects.
I predicted Meryl Streep would win, in the fact I placed a free £10 bet token I had on her winning! The win wasn’t huge, but enough to get a couple of the 4" ThunderCats 
As for watching the show, it was on too late UK time for me to watch it, though in the past I have stopped up to watch it! :eek: Unfortunately I had to be up early though this morning
I predicted Rango would win Best Animated Film and maybe, maybe in the back of my mind I’d knew The Artist would win Best Picture.
I decided to skip Oscars this year, as I had the feeling it wasn’t going to be very interesting, and moreover I had seen none of the movies that were nominated for the big categories - including Hugo, which I should have, seeing as how it was based on the works of early special effects pioneer Georges Melies.
But a lot of the stuff you mentioned that could have been cool wasn’t. You mentioned that they performed the song “Man or Muppet?” from The Muppets, but the Muppets themselves didn’t even perform it. They were shut out. Also, a lot of other good movies that deserved to be nominated in certain categories got shut out as well: Andy Serkis didn’t get nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Captain America should have at least gotten nominated for Makeup or even Costumes and Visual Effects, but didn’t. And Harry Potter - after 8 damned films - should have gotten an Oscar by now.
The winners were predicted more than a week ago. Meryl Streep was a shoo-in. That Rango won the Oscar isn’t exactly something for them to be proud of considering what else it was up against. It was kind of like picking out a Republican presidential candidate. (to quote the cat from Puss in Boots, “Ooooooh!”) Pixar wasn’t even in the running this year because the movie they had out (Cars 2) was not only a sequel, but a sequel to one of their least popular movies.
And The Artist? I doubt it’s going to stand the test of time. Besides, it’s been done before. I’m sure director Michel Hazanavicius and actor Jean Dujardin are good, but I’d rather see their OSS 117 movies which are the ones that got them international attention in the first place (They’re kind of like the Austin Powers movies, but smarter and funnier.)
About the only thing that was remotely interesting was Brad Pitt declaring that the daikaiju movie War of the Gargantuas was what made him want to become an actor. And even then I have to wonder if he was joking. (Seriously, though. Check out that movie if you haven’t seen it. It has to be some of Eiji Tsuburaya’s best F/X work.)
It seems more pronounced than ever now that The Oscars are becoming less and less relevant. Bob Chipman wrote an article on The Escapist that I thought hit the nail on the head.
I wish they’d make an awards show for movies that was more relevant to me. The Scream Awards and the MTV Movie Awards are really just about promotion more than anything. There’s the Saturn Awards, but they haven’t been televised since 1980. But it’s just become glaringly obvious how out of touch the Academy has become.
No one sang the nominated songs. They ditched that this year. There was Kermit and Miss Piggy but that’s it.
Though I agree about the Academy.
