Obviously a lot of fans here and elsewhere got really excited over the references to Thundercats’ sister shows - Silverhawks and Tigersharks - and a few have even said they’d like to see Mon*Star appear in the flesh at some point. So I’d like to know, how many of you would really be on board with seeing the characters from all three shows inhabiting the same universe?
In other threads, I’ve said a few times that I always thought that all three shows could have easily taken place in the same universe, not only because they were all made by Rankin-Bass, but also because they all had a similar visual look to them. I’m hoping that if the showrunners actually are reading these forums, that they’ll seriously consider taking the idea and running with it. Not only would it open up the show for more story opportunities, but it would have even more franchise potential with new series and spinoffs.
I’d even love to see a new crossover show featuring various characters from all three series forming a specialized team akin to the Avengers or the Justice League where they would fight villains that would be beyond the abilities of just one group to handle on their own. Of course, that also begs the question of who would be on the team? Would it be a set lineup, or more of an Avengers-style rotation? (I have a few ideas of my own as to who could be on it.)
So what do you all think? Would the idea of the characters from these shows interacting with each other every so often be something you’d like to see? Yay or nay?
I’d certainly love for this to happen over them getting their individual shows. Not that I’m opposed to the idea of them getting their own run, but I think stories and characters would be a lot more interesting this way, when used sparingly. Maybe Mumm-Ra can be the main villain for this season and then we can get a break and have Mon-Star for next with Mumm-Ra making occasional appearances, with Silverhawks helping out. This could take place in space and other planets thus expanding the universe even further.
To be honest I was only ever a fan of Thundercats than Silverhawks or Tigersharks. I barely remember Tigersharks now, only that the theme song was pretty catchy and that they used some sort of a water tank to morph into their respective fish-suits. However, I did watch reruns of Thundercats and Silverhawks.
But yeah, I appreciate the devs doing this for us fans. Certainly shows that they care.
the universe is big place, so there is no reason they cant all coexist. being that they have injected Mon*Star as a part of the Thundercat history, there is all kinds of opportunity to reintroduce the character in some sort of antagonist or co-antagonist role.
Lion-O is now on a quest to unite the different species and retrieve all the stones, so there so is nothing saying that Mon*Star cant end up with one (someone else brought it up in a another thread), sparking a 2 or 3 episode crossover with the Silverhawks
I like to think that Mon*Star is being set up as as a main villain for a story arc. It does seem like the story is pointing in that direction so I hope the creators are thinking along that line.
Introducing the Silverhawks and Tigersharks makes the universe so much bigger and makes the potential for stories unlimited. However, there needs to be an equal balance of villains if this many heroes are going to be introduced.
My personal hope is the Silverhawks get their own spinoff series again but only after Thundercats has been renewed for multiple seasons.
It may just be me but I have seen so much more discussion spring up since the Legacy teaser last week than for any other episode. I hope the creators are paying attention because it does seem like the Silverhawks and Tigersharks are a welcome inclusion
I think I could live with a single episode crossover if there was a spin off ready, but anything more than that no. The cast of characters is just the right size without having other characters to think about.
