…What if an animated movie would be the best way to tie up loose ends end the NS rather than another series?! I already echoed this idea onto the ‘What are you doing now?’ thread. Of course, as long as it is NOT made up of episodes of a could-have-been 2nd season tied up together into one $#!tty narration, like they did with Atlantis’ “sequel.” And it better be 90 minutes long too! Did anyone else already have this idea before me?
This has been discussed for over a year. I dont think that will happen if not the game people come and do it again which it would need.
The most easiest thing would to just give us the potential scripts of the remaining episodes, or to make it a little more special. A comic.
What WB/CN should be releasing is a statement of apology to the Thundercats fans.
This was discussed before new episodes even started airing. It’s pretty much impossible to do it now.
Only a comic book would be possible. And I’d love to see a continuation in any form.

Warner has made a lot of great direct to DVD animated features like New Frontier, Wonder Woman, and especially Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns , perhaps they will do something akin to that with ThunderCats! Since it would be a direct to consumer release, they could do a grittier storyline, and not worry so much about age rating like they had to for CN. I mean I feel for them, because they had to walk a mighty tight rope between making a show children would like, as well as cater to the older fans.
If a direct to DVD release were successful, they could make a more 80’s type kiddie friendly movie, or maybe even a new show.
A comic book would be great. But they’re already doing plenty of those, set in between episodes, right? And, hmmm, direct-to-DVD, that’s always a good option for a movie.
I think it’s safe to say this won’t happen. With Dan Norton leaving WB and the rest of the staff presumably moving on to different projects, it would be nearly impossible to get the same team for a DVD movie. I honestly only see ThunderCats as a franchise continuing through toys, maybe comics, and/or another reboot that can hopefully be more successful. I feel we can say this generation of ThunderCats is done.
I think they could do it. Chances are WB still has all the concept artwork and we know they had an outline done for the second season which could probably be condensed into a movie or two.
But I don’t think they will do it. Dan said something on the lines of they tried everything they could to continue it in some way, but the money just wasn’t there.
So unless there’s someone to front up the cash, it’s not gonna happen.
The only difference is the DC direct to DVD movies have money coming in from those properties to fund them, from comic books and Mattel/DC Direct action figures, t-shirts etc.
Not any more. The UK comics by Panini (sp) got cancelled at around issue #10. The last one came with a little Thundertank toy if memory serves.
I’d like that! Maybe an original full-length animated feature that doesn’t necessarily have to be derived of the 2011 reboot and rather use the original series a little more solidly as a palette. Whatever changes need to be made due to things being or looking “dated”, update them, but try to be as subtle as possible about it. I would just love a Thundercats animated film that has the epic-vibe of Planet Hulk, Wonder Woman, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and Superman Unbound.
I’d enjoy a dark-and-edgy DTV “ThunderCats” film set in the original series’ universe.
