I mean seriously, you’re complaining about a show that hasn’t aired yet. And the changes, it’s called adaptation for a reason. And really, when you remake something; there has to be changes and trust me in this instance, there are very good reasons but balgus already pointed out what and I’d like to add I never understood how Lion-O grew up but I will accept the malfunctioning capsule theory.
The point is, if the remake is exactly the same-it’d be boring. I mean, you could say when Psycho gets a remake, it should be the same, something bad shouldn’t come out of it-oh wait, they did! And it sucked! :mad:
All I’m saying is, don’t denounce it immediately especially if it’s based on nostalgia. Just give it a chance, if you don’t like it after seeing it; that’s fine. If you don’t want to see it at all, that’s fine too.
I don’t mind a reboot. Perhaps, I’m just used to the same happening all the time in anime. OVAs, TV series, movies… You get used to the changing stories.
Of course marketing is involved. WB wouldn’t greenlight a reboot if they didn’t think it would make money hand over fist. And let’s not forget that Thundercats is a cartoon from the 80s; they were all episodic toy commercials back then. No cartoon existed that didn’t have a toyline to go along with it. I slept just fine in my Rainbow Brite PJs under my CareBear bedsheets hugging my Popple…
I like the new premise that Thundera is a kingdom on Third Earth and that the sci-fi elements are less prevalent. Hopefully, the producers have engaged fully in world building for this show; it would be odd if Thundera is the only place where the cat people live on the planet. I imagine that the main cat races must have their own home territories…the background Thunderians all look pretty mixed.
I think it’s pretty obvious after reading all the interviews and seeing all the footage and images that this show isn’t just about making money. It’s pretty obviously a labor of love by the guys over it. I wouldn’t be the least surprised if a couple of them had accounts on this site (maybe for years) and we didn’t know it. A lot of thought seems to have been put into it. and honestly, after seeing the American shows these past few years like Johny Test, Total Drama Island, Voltron Force (especially Voltron Force) I’m incredibly glad this show is being animated in Japan. Their animation is simply better than over here. It’s not just the style. Styles change. Even in anime there is a huge variety of styles. it’s the fluidity of the movements and the care to make sure the show actually looks good. If I assumed by what you said that you hadn’t seen much anime when you have, I apologize, but don’t you assume things about me either. You have no idea when I, or any of the rest of us, was born.
But yes they want to make money from the show. And you’re insulting our intelligence if you think we think otherwise. And you know what? If they put out a good show I’ll be more than happy, I’d be ecstatic, to give them my money. Send them the message that good, quality made shows will make money instead of some of the crap that’s came out lately.
Yeah, this take on it keeps all the cools and does away with all of the too-abusrd-even-for-suspension-of-disbelief.
I have high hopes for this reboot. The setting changes from this thread are a HUGE fix from the original. If they can reign in the deus ex machina effect on the Sword of Omens and give it neat powers but also vulnerabilities or at least take away its omnipotence in a consistent manner, that will go a really, really long to improving the story-telling of the show.
From what they’ve said the sword grows with Lion-O. He doesn’t start off immediately knowing how to use it. So at the beginning, at the very least, it’s not as powerful in his hands as it would be in Claudus’ hands.
To me, sci-fi is more technology, outer space, spaceships, other planets. I can enjoy sci-fi to an extent when it’s primarily based on adventure. But, for example, the movie “Alien,” not my cup of tea at all.
This new ThunderCats series gives me the impression that it’s a lot more fantasy based than sci-fi based. I like that, I’m more enjoy fantasy over sci-fi. I liked Lord of the Rings much more than Star Wars (I did like Star Wars too, just LOTR a lot more).
I’m looking forward to this change. I think it has much potential. I’ll be upset if they screw it up though.
Is that like when they have weird marks around the characters eyes? I remember they did that in one episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender and I thought it was the stupidest looking animation in the entire series. There are certain things they do with anime like that, that I don’t really like.
However, the original ThunderCats was anime and they didn’t do that.

I agree. I might of been okay with the concept as a kid because I didn’t have think about it that deeply, but looking back, it’s too illogical that Thundera was rebuilt. It was just weird. If a planet’s destroyed, that really should have been it. Since the ThunderCats were welcomed on Third Earth by the inhabitants, there’s no reason why they couldn’t have made that their new permanent home and if there were other Thunderians out in the galaxy, to send out some kind of signal welcoming them there. Just my thought.
I am very happy that the ThunderCats are returning and can wait to watch the new stories unfold. And I think that if you dont like it, or think that people who do like it are ignorant, stupid or whatever, you can at least be polite enough to let other people, like me, enjoy it.
I liked this approach of setting it all on Third Earth, too. For one thing, it somehow cuts down on the total ambiguity of what Third Earth was supposed to be. On the old show I was always left wondering, “Is this supposed to be our Earth? If so, just when exactly?” It apparently wasn’t ancient Earth; there was no evidence of human civilizations of the time like the Romans. It obviously wasn’t present day, either. The only other explanation could be the future. But how did it get that way? Nuclear war’s usually the most convenient answer, but there was no evidence of there having been one. And it wouldn’t really account for all the magical creatures.
At least this way, having it all be on one planet consolidates everything and makes it onto one large fantasy world a la Tolkien’s Middle-Earth and Burroughs’ Barsoom (both of which Third Earth bears more than a passing resemblance to). While I miss the Space Opera aspect, the old show never really used it all that much except when it came to characters like Mandora or Capt. Shiner who got there in spaceships. But doing it this way doesn’t rule them out, and still leaves the door open for them to make an appearance.
im going to try this new show and see what happens but i will say that if they dont have thundera or some of the elements of the new toon the original had then to me its not going to be something ill watch for to long and enjoy
