Alrighty. If any of you TCL folks are interested, we definitely need a fan site category committee and people willing to advertise the awards across the fandom - post reminders about what’s going on over there and drum up interest and support.
I am waiting for final confirmation from the folks that wanted to do the fan fic and fan art areas, so there’s a possibility one or both of those could be left open. But until then, it’s only the two areas I mentioned that need some legwork done and people willing to organize them.
Ok, briefly what does this entail?
If you want to run the fan site committee, you’re in charge of that division of the awards. You need to decide what awards to give out (best new site, awesome classic, best graphics, best media archive, best ep guide, etc etc) - basically the sky’s the limit. Pass out as many awards for as many things you can think of that may deserve some props from the TC community for sites and/or site masters. Obviously, we don’t do any “worst” awards or mock awards - this is kept upbeat and positive. You will decide, of course, the confines in which to qualify for each of these awards and then Myra, who has volunteered to design the award graphic, will produce a graphic for each of your awards.
The only restrictions, really, are you’ll have to operate within the confines of the broader rules, which I am in the process of revamping ( typically, this includes stuff like eligible sites have to have been updated within 2005 to qualify…the exception being a retro award like an awesome classic. And typically, I have it a rule that professional sites cannot compete with fan sites in the same categories. So for instance, if you want wb’s site and rankin-bass.com to be included, they can be, but within their own area of competition - as in “best pro site”. Seems to keep it fair and the playing field level)
You’d also need to go around the web and compile a list of eligible sites for me to make available for members. We realize that sometimes things get overlooked and these lists are rarely comprehensive without doubt, but it’s a good springboard for people doing the nominating to consider and we get more participation when we have them. That takes time and tedious work, hence, the committees. And also, why we start this work now, two months or so before we’re even going to start nominations.
Too much work? The advert job is less demanding and that’s open. All you have to do there is pop by active fandom hot spots (boards, blogs, groups etc) and make posts letting people know what we’re doing, when we need help, and when nominating and voting periods are to begin and end. And then help us announce winners.
Yes, more than one person can do each job, but there should be a “boss” in the group - someone who has ultimate say and final word. Makes things easier.
That said, if anyone here is interested in the fic, art or award design areas, by all means ask at the group if those folks heading those areas want more help. In the Voltron awards last year we gave out over 70 awards in all three categories - the awards designer needed the hand
Otherwise, just come on in and read up on how this is done so you’re ready to participate come January 2007
Edit: The Fan Fic area just opened up too, so if anyone wants to spear head that portion, let me know!
