12 Pixar stories and the movies that inspired them

Being a big Disney/Pixar fan, I found this very interesting. Even though some of the comparisons are a bit of a stretch, many of the similarities are just uncanny!

Some of the comparisons were obvious and well known as the directors had themselves acknowledged drawing inspiration from the mentioned sources, like “A Bug’s Life - Seven Samurai” and “The Incredibles - Fantastic Four”. But the resemblance of others is just too much to be just a coincidence, like “Monsters Inc. - Little Monster”, “Up - Above Then Beyond”, and “Cars - Doc Hollywood”.

Cool, thanks for sharing! We almost always enjoy the Disney/Pixar movies at our house. It’s nice to know a bit more about them.

Some people say The Incredibles is The best Fantastic Four ever made…it’s just not called Fantastic Four.
I think I read that Seven Samurais also influenced The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Star Wars.
I think the Studio Ghibli movie Ponyo might be a little inspired by The Little Mermaid.
I downloaded Monsters Inc but still haven’t watched it.

Really? I always thought it was the other way around i.e. western movies were inspired by Japanese ones. The debate of “The Lin King/Kimba the White Lion” is still going on.

Well in Ponyo’s case The Little Mermaid came out in the late 80’s and Ponyo came out in 2008. I think you would like it, it is very much like a Disney cartoon. In fact it was criticised for not being like other Ghibli movies and being very inspired by US/Disney cartoons. I think it is a great movie and really enjoyed it.
