I just looked at the signature count for the ThunderCat movie petition. Twenty-nine is a nice start, but it isn’t enough, everyone. We need more, more, more! :cheetaraveryhappy:
I just wish they’d reconsider doing CGI in favor over traditional hand-drawn animation. Look at some of the semi-newest anime like Ghost in the shell stand alone complex, and Fullmetal Alchemsit. Hand drawn is still better looking than CGI in my opinion.
I absolutely agree, voice! But CGI is the hot-hot-hot trend in animation these days, so hopefully Warner Brothers will do the Cats justice in that particular medium (fingers crossed). 
We’re now up to 70 signatures on the “Larry Kenney as Lion-O” petition. Looking good, but we still need more. So, let’s get those numbers higher, eh?

Not to be a nitpicker here - but, why just focus all the effort on having Larry Kenny revising his role as Lion-O for this new movie that’s in the works? Why not petition to have Lynn Lipton revise her role as Cheetara/Wilykit, as well? Or Peter Newman for Tygra/Wilykat? Or any of the other surviving voice actors from the original series, for that matter?
It just doesn’t seem right to imply that only Larry Kenny is worthy of revising his role for the leader of the Thundercats when there are others from the original series still around to revise their respective roles, as well (should they be interested in getting those parts, of course).
Though Lion-O was the main character in the series, we all have to remember he was not the sole character that everyone loved and recognized/connected with.
I think we’d ALL like to have the original voice cast for the movie, but it’s already going to be an uphill battle to get one voice actor in the movie, let alone four or five. We concentrated on Larry because he’s still very active with the ThunderCats community and is easy to get a hold of.
You could also look at it this way: if Larry does get some part in the movie, we can then concentrate on the other voice actors because we would know WB and/or the director is acknowledging the 80s cartoon.
We know NOTHING about this movie – seriously, we’re just assuming that Lion-O is even going to be the lead character. With WB’s track record, they could probably start with a brand new cast of characters. I wouldn’t be happy, but I wouldn’t be surprised either.
Focus on getting the studio and the director to look our direction, then we can move from there.
Actually, my personal feeling is that if this is to be a re-launch of sorts, why not test the waters with new blood and new talent? Sure there are endless risks that it will fail on some level, but then again, new actors could add new perspective to the characters.
Hence, my hesitation to sign the petition.
Quite true; given WB’s past dealings, I’m actually amazed that anything regarding Thundercats as a film has made it past a shelved script.
A new cast (voice actor wise is almost a 100% certainty) and a major re-write of the characters in general wouldn’t be much of a surprise. As far as the canon set by the cartoon itself… well, we can all hope that this won’t end up as yet another over-hyped, animated train wreck.
Heh, the last time a “studio” paid close attention to the fandom, Ford Gilmore assured the fandom that he had done “extensive” research on the characters and overall synopsis of Thundercats.
I still feel that Wildstorm’s over hyped, revival did little more than turn out eye-candy for the fans to gush over (and boy, did they). Sadly, the one story I honestly thought came closest to canon… was the one the “fans” liked the least. Go figure
And given what I seen of WB’s general treatment of this fandom and others. I think I’d rather not fret about people who live by the “You’ll get what I give you and like it” attitude.
That’s great and all, but the fandom really doesn’t have any say in how things will proceed in regards to this movie.
Though it’s easier for fans to get in contact with Mr. Kenny; it is not so difficult for execs/producers/talent agents, etc associated with the production of this new movie to get ahold of anyone they voice interest in at any point in time.
Hollywood has always had far better breadth of contacts than those of the average fanbase.

No, it would mean they were acknowledging the thoughts and preferences of the fans - not the cartoon itself.
In that regards, why not just edit the petition to include the other original voice actors? The fandom stands as much chance of successfully turning the producers decision in hiring most of the original cast than they do being successful in getting just one.

Me, neither - though sometimes, change can be a good thing. I would personally love to see the original characters we all know and love, but some more focus on the team as a whole or the other Thundercats individually instead of just focused on one specific character (namely Lion-O).
Yes, it is a coming of age story, but he isn’t doing it alone. He’s getting help from the others, so they deserve some much needed spotlight, too.
Some people on the forums asked for a petition to help Larry Kenney get involved in the movie and so we made a petition. In my previous posts, I wrote that I was a little pessimistic about doing a petition, but I (or we as a site) are just listening to the members and thought it wouldn’t hurt to at least try. No one mentioned the other voice actors and we didn’t really mean any disrespect by not including them.
Basically, the basis of the petition was to reflect what the Transformers movie was able to do…get the main voice actor from the original G1 cartoon. He transcended all the other Optimus Primes…and that’s how I looked at it. Larry Kenney is the most reknown voice actor amongst the fan base and it would be easier (or rather, less difficult) to get Larry to do some voice in the movie…personally, if he is even involved in the movie regardless of who he voices, that would be good enough for me. Others will want him to voice Lion-O no matter what and that’s their opinion…more power to them.
The Transformers fans helped get Peter Cullen to voice Optimus in the movie, so either the director or the studio was listening…which means studios DO listen to fans. They could have gotten numerous other actors to voice Optimus, but they went with Mr. Cullen.
Getting Larry to voice Lion-O would be more of a fan service than anything else. I’d love Larry to get the role, but at the same time if he doesn’t, I won’t necessarily be heart broken. I would like to see him get a cameo at the very least.
I was one of the fans who wanted the petition. But I am a realist when it comes to its chance of succeeding, so if it fails, it fails, and at the very least, you can say we tried. And you really can’t ask for much more than that.
I don’t think that “Thunder, Thunder, THUNDERCATS HO!!!” wouldn’t sound the same without Larry Kenney as the supporting voice for Lion-O. I wouldn’t want it any other way if Warner decides to make a CG film of the ThunderCats.
I, also, was one of the fans asking for the petition. Just like catspat, I also am a realist in succeeding. And Manny’s right, it is a starting point at least… I personally would love to see all original voice actors in the movie, but let’s see if we can get Larry first. I know WB will do what they will do, but let’s at least let our voices be heard. If nothing else, maybe it will help WB stay true to the essence of what Thundercats was built on.
