When Lion-o was Leo and met the Tiger(I can’t remember his name) who was one of Mumm-ra’s generals, He thought to himself and wondered, are all Tigers jerks. The fact they, as a race(or subrace) were so prideful, that they continued to serve Mumm-ra even after his fall, would definetly make them jerks. But the argument is pointless since other then Tygra they are all dead. It also explains why the people working on the show said that Tygra has some darkness there in him. Not just because of the crap he had to deal with but for a taint from his people serving Mumm-ra in the past and there pack with the spirits of evil.
I was kind of disapointed that the first time we see the spirits of evil and Mummra is no were to be found.
The main point(s) is that I like “Survival of Fittest” better then “Native son” because I am a fan of the Twins and Tygra is my least favorite character. Also because we finally got an episode were we have no Lion-o or Tygra. Plus we get to see Panthro and Cheetara interact with each other and the twins.
Well both episodes were just filler and we still have no idea were the next stone is and why they sent just Lion-o and Tygra by themselves to look for a place for the Thundertank to get threw.
Lion-O never said that all Tigers are jerks and there is no evidence presented that he thinks so, he’s sympathetic towards them even though he knows they’re not being completely honest with him. He doesn’t even think all Lizards are jerks by nature and is trying to free them from Mumm-Ra control as much as he is anyone else. What he said in “Legacy” was “A Tiger underestimating me, I’m not surprised.”
i could of sworn he said(thought) something like that. Well gues he of course wouldn’t use the word Jerk since this show is supposed to be for kids. They would say words like “wiskers” or some other cat related version of something that may be conserdered a curse word or something to that effect. Even though using the word “jerk” is not a bad word to me, the censores may feel differently. My bad, I may have been thinking of one the parodies for the show or something similar. But that still doesn’t change my mind about everything else, I still think Tygra and his people have(had) attitude problems. I am not going to change my mind, just as I will not change any one elses.
Well I said I was wrong about what Lion-o said or thought. But What I mean I will not change my mind that Tygra is my least favorite of main characters(thus far) and that I like this episode better then native son.
Also Sir_Saphire I said I was mistaken about what Lion-o said, you do not have to be a jerk about it. I never said it was a fact that one episode is better then the other, just that I feel strongly that I enjoyed one over the other.
It would be really refreshing for once if folks would quit turning threads into “Lion-O is a jerk” and/or “Tygra is a jerk” debates. They both have moments of being less than perfect. So does every other character in the show, major and minor. That is what gives them depth and makes them interesting. If they were bland, one-dimensional characters that never made mistakes, never felt irrational and never misbehaved, then we’d be watching the OS.
I thought so too, but they are different. The one in “Omens” they pickpocket is a fat cat. The one in “Survival of the Fittest” they tried to return the purse to looks like some type of overgrown schnauzer.
With this episode out of the way, the only backstory that has not been fully explained yet is Cheetara’s. I’m not sure where they will fit that in the rest of the episode arc, or if the flashbacks with Tygra are the extent of it.
I think the contrast between the Twins when they were so eager to help their parents and now, when they want nothing to do with hunting, was heartbreaking. Wileykat’s “We’ll pay him back when we’re rich” rang beautifully, horribly hollow.
Has anyone else noticed that El Dara seems to be more Wileykat’s thing than Wilykit’s? Wilykit seems fairly chill with the dynamic they have with the adult Thundercats, and really, really likes the Elephant Village, so Wileykit snaps, something to the effect of, “Our home is El Dara!”
I wonder if that’s going anywhere.
I’ll confess I was a bit disappointed that the Thunderkittens neither hunted the cute deerfowl nor dragged weirdo boar back. Sure, they don’t want to go back to making tough choices, but the stance is just so impractical. “Oh no, they’re cut and have families! We can’t kill it! Nevermind that we’ve eaten plenty of meat of unknown provenance all our lives!”
I know it’s standard kid logic, and I know plenty of adults don’t want to be the ones to butcher the steer for their steaks and hamburgers, but it still annoys me.
I can’t wait until one of the Thunderkittens lands their first direct kill in combat. (I’m sure the cartoon can’t go there, but. Holy crap, it’d be awesome.)
I think they would’ve been able to drag it back. They might be children but they’re still Thunderians. Remember when Lion-O dragged that broken ship in episode 3? And he’s only 17. Even if the twins only had a fraction of that kind of strength it would be more than enough to carry that beast.
I definitely agree that the Cats have some superhuman abilities, but Lion-O moving the ship in episode three probably isn’t the best example. The ship was afloat at the time, and it’s surprisingly easy to move even bulky objects around in water. I’ve learned and re-learned that the hard way.
The Thunderkittens might have been able to drag it. Even if they couldn’t, they could still have killed it and then run for Panthro and Cheetara to drag it back.
This was a good episode; I liked the flashback stuff with Kit, Kat & their family, but the rest could have been a little better. I expected them to be more on their own in the forest during the episode and not only the last five minutes but it wasn’t that bad; that badger-pig-mole thing had a wierd design but I liked how those bird-rabbit-deers creatures were designed. Overall, not perfect but not bad either; bring on the next episode.
I think it was a good thing that they didn’t kill the warthog looking animal. It would kind of be a messed up morality. Do what you need to in order to survive but try and find a real ugly animal to eat instead of a cute one.
DeMatteis is back with another great episode. His third contribution to Thundercats Cartoon has a psychologically oriented direction imbued with touching and emotional moments for the Kittens. The best part was the poignant flashbacks which as in ‘Native Son’ shed a light on the Thundercats origin. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat as in Tygra’s case, whose past was much more interesting and informing. Still, we get to learn about their troubled background and the pain inflicted to the twins which explains also their obsession with the fabled and mythical city of El-Dara. I like a lot the spiritual outlook on life Wilykit has, which is enhanced by her special flute and the hypnotic melody she plays. Her soothing tune came from her mother’s humming and is really enchanting to hear. DeMatteis as in his comic books writing is very familiar for his elemental and spiritualistic approach to life. His stories are very deep and psychological, hence the moving flashbacks revealing the sentimental past of the twins. I think their father’s death by a tornado was a simple idea but even so it was a smart way to lay emphasis on the agricultural background they grew up and stressing the hazards and wilderness of Mother Nature.
In the original, they were among the ‘Noble’ Thundercats and even Jaga considered them as integral parts of the team, instructing them to help Lion-O on becoming Lord. The current version is more like of the guttersnipe who live in the slums. I don’t discern ‘noble’ type in them but this whole Tom Sawyer profile is more interesting. They haven’t find exactly their place in the team, maybe due to their younger age, in the ordinal they were portrayed much older both on inside and outside. I’d certainly like to see more of them being incorporsted in the team.
