OK…I’ll just say this right now…I LOVE THE MUTANTS!!!
Slythe, Addicus (Monkian), & Kaynar (Jackalman) make for an awesome trio of villains. With Grune gone, these three have really stepped up as being the dominating bad guys of the series. Kaynar in particular was cracking me up with his one liners, & cold hearted Slythe is just awesome. I really liked Tygra taking command of the T-Cats in their dire situation too and we’re really getting to a point now where we have to ask, why isn’t he in charge? Maybe Lion-O & Tygra will have to come to some compromise where Lion-O agrees to let Tygra run the missions or something. I get that Lion-O is the King because of his compassion & ability to reach out to others, but that doesn’t help as much on the battlefield.
I also love that they are doing a modern equivalent to the Anointment Trials. Setting it up by actually killing Lion-O and having him do it as an Out of Body experience was really clever. It was nice to see Ghost Jaga again too. That said, I don’t think these particular trials were very strong. How did smelling the kittens help Lion-O accomplish the 1st trial? They didn’t explain that at all and it seemed really strange. Also, him beating Cheetara by essentially cheating was a little weird. Yes he took a shortcut in the classic series version too, but they clearly pointed out that the shortcut was far more dangerous, so it was a test of Lion-O’s bravery & ingenuity. This one just felt like “yeah, screw the maze. I’ll just cheat”. Hopefully the Panthro & Tygra trials are handled a little bit better. I do like that they are having Lion-O confront his personal issues in these Trials/Visions, so maybe that’ll be a way for him to sort out his emotions & feelings towards Tygra & Cheetara indirectly. We’ll see.
Good episode this week, but could have been better.
I thought it was great. A really creative way to recreate the trials from the original. The mutants are an actual threat this time which in turn makes the Thundercats greater in my opinion. I love this show
Because Lion-O is the King and Tygra isn’t. Sure Tygra could be a better leader, but that doesn’t mean he gets to be. I’m sure Lion-O will come into his role as leader in the next few episodes.

The trial was to teach Lion-O to stop and think before he acts.

This trial was to teach him to think outside the box instead of just trying to overcome challenges with brute force.
The whole point is that they’re trying to get him to think of alternate solutions to his problems instead of trying to go through things bluntly without thinking.
Great episode, liking the trials, and having the trio back is great as well. Can’t wait for part two, but I am really looking forword the episodes after the trials.

Lion-O’s idea wasn’t one of his worse ones. Obviously they wanted to highlight this for the trials, but it actually wasn’t all that bad. Except the leaving them wide open thing.
*The tension between Tygra and Lion-O is still there.
*The teasing was funny, but Lion-O was too tense to look kindly upon it.
*I like the fact that Tygra didn’t just dump on him. I hated when Lion-O would refuse the advice of his friends. It’s nice to know the crew doesn’t think its a good trait either. I like that it was subtly addressed.
*The twins’ trial was amusing. I like that he used his sense of smell instead of a weapon. Yeah he’s an anthropomorphic cat, but he still a cat. I would love to see the team using their feline features sometimes.
The Cheetara trial made me uncomfortable. I really don’t like his attitude towards her, and I’m afraid the writers don’t see it as a problem. Nice Guy ™. Instead of choosing the most obvious approach, he used his head. Lion-O is on his way!

Tygra didn’t do a bad job as leader. He used his head and came up with a strategy. Probably the biggest difference between the two leaders.
Don’t write Grune off so soon. His ghost returned in the OS several times, so there’s no doubt Grune’s ghost will do the same in the new series. They just need a story for him to return in.
I too found it pretty darn excellent, some things I didn’t was the start of the episode with everybody questioning Lion-O’s decisions, it felt forced even though I agree with them on Lion-O being stubborn and not really open to advice or suggestions of his teamates, it just felt a little too confrontational, it was like watching intervention in the tank, a sure fire way to get people defensive is to have everyone protest as the same time. I guess my point is I agree it should be addressed but the way it was addressed was not the best to me. I did kind of like seeing everyone teasing Lion-O a little bit with the candy fruit, that to me was a kinder more round about way to get his attention on things. I loved the plan that had Tygra insulting the mutants, clever, though I was getting concerned about the poor guy eventually getting a broken jaw for his trouble (is Tygra made of steel? He sure does get hit hard a lot) I loved Cheetara’s support as well for Tygra’s successful plan and MAN did I cheer when Tygra sucker punched I think it was Slithe and say “and that’s for Lion-O!” And gosh those Wileys are CUTE, I was scared Monkian was really going to hurt Kit!
I love the episode. Big jump up from last week, the show is going strong. The mutants are a threat like people mentioned which is great, it is nice to see the Cat’s struggle instead of just dominating all day like the OS. I thought the trials were interesting and look forward to the new ones. Hopefully the ratings stay strong this week like last week’s
I’m watching the episode right now and i seem to notice that Lion’o got a lot more sharper features could be emagining it but it looks like his eyes are a lot more pontier and his hair seem longer too.
I DID indeed, but I think its more to do with the animators for that particular episode, I see tiny inconsistancies like that a lot with Cheetara, sometimes her face is very soft and sweet and other times she’s a high cheekboned femme fatale. Animators have to be able to follow a particular style of art well on whatever project they are working on and Thundercats is pretty topnotch but if you are looking for it you can find a person’s style difference in little things. Style can be imitated by never exactly duplicated either way I think the cats always look great.
im super glad i have a reason to get up on saturdays, this episode rocked, i like that fact that he is earning his life back, and not somehow solidifying or proving his worthiness like in the original trials. awsome!
