ThunderCats are back ...in parody form!

Round the bend was awesome.
They also did a Transformers parody.

And Ninja Turtles.

These didn’t damage the lore or fandom of either franchise.

None of those were a main, official series. I am a big fan of Robot Chicken which is a parody for pretty much everything I grew up with. But it doesn’t call itself ThundeCats or MOTU or anything else. It’s a thing of its own.

You know what though? As much as a lot of us dislike the style of this show, it seems to be getting a LOT of publicity. I’ve seen it mentioned on so many news sites in the past few days. Even the 2011 series didn’t get this much coverage when it was announced.

I have to agree. The 2011 reboot had a very limited impact outside fanbases and as I mentioned earlier, almost everyone I know out there learned of its existence after it ended. TCR has gained massive negative publicity everywhere. But if negative publicity consists only of truly negative reactions, does it really work in the end? It doesn’t even have that “so bad it’s good” vibe so far :frowning:

However a lot of the publicity is causing a very large NEGATIVE reaction. It will probably end up in the same situation the reboot of reboot ended up in.

Not too excited about this, the brand deserves something beyond being it’s own punchline. But if this gets me an actual Classics toyline that isn’t just a brief way to scam me, I’ll take it.

Jaga doesn’t appear in the intro and he is one of the main characters on the show…

I’ve seen a few people say that the Thundercats franchise is on life support, yet I have not seen this many people collectively denounce something with such passion since the trailer for the all female Ghostbusters hit YouTube. Currently the Thundercats Roar announcement video is sitting at a whopping 27K thumbs down, with a total of 8,600 + comments, of which I would say 95% are negative. Twitter and Facebook: same thing. Thousands upon thousands of voices all collectively voicing their displeasure at this new incarnation of Thundercats.

For a franchise that is supposedly on life support it sure does have a ton of loyal fans, including MANY passionate fans of the 2011 reboot. What this shows me is that WB nor CN have known how to handle the Thundercats property correctly in order for it to be successful again. I’ve always hated that WB owns the Thundercats license, but wow I never knew there were THAT MANY passionate fans of Thundercats. As a life long Thundercats fan, it is really awesome to see.

Unless Panthro goes back to being
<----- that guy
the 2011 reboot can stay defunct.

welll dude expect more of that from this new show. If you expect them to respect panthro you’re kidding yourself. such a shame since he’s my favorite male thundercat.

While I can appreciate and commend WB for doing something to bring in new fans I can help but think they really have missed out by doing something so drastic that the majority of older original fans aren’t to interested in it.
This definitely is not what I had in mind for a Thundercats reboot.

Maybe the show will surprise everyone and be good. When Transformers Animated and MLP:FIM were announced they had similar reactions and both went on to great success.
Personally I think Rise of the Ninja Turtles will have similar success.
Perhaps Thundercats Roar will also have some success.
Not all serious reboots with lots of fan input of classics cartoons are successful. Just look at the latest Transformers cartoons, Combiner Wars, Titans Return and Power of the Primes. They are all absolutely awful…the worst Transformers series. Even people who hated Energon would defend it as being vastly superior.

Why don’t we all just look at this as a fun official parody for older fans enjoy and hopefully younger fans will also enjoy it and it increases interest in the brand for WB to do other projects or perhaps another company to purchase the licence.
Maybe one day Hasbro or Nickelodeon will purchase the licence from WB then they will do a show that not only appeals to new young fans but also older fans that liked the original and even the 2011 series. But personally I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Maybe this will be a wake up call to WB to show them Thundercats still has a huge fan base and they need to do a reboot and handle it properly like TMNT, (some)Transformers, MLP, Voltron etc etc.

given how the creator’s are reacting to the negativity expect the same garbage that TTG does to their critics in the actual show itself and you know exactly what i mean by that.

When I first saw the promo, my immediate reaction was “This seems like a really bad idea.” I am not a fan of the art style and thought the direction of this series does not represent the franchise.

I also do not believe that a show has to be designed and/or written a certain way just because it is “for kids.” You may produce it for that demographic, but it does not mean it has to be goofy or silly. I have seen many animated series where it was a kid’s version and still retained the design and/or writing elements that represents the core of the brand (e.g. “Tom & Jerry Kids,” “Muppet Babies,” etc.)

Additionally, if I wanted to introduce TC to a new generation, this upcoming series would not be my first choice, being that the direction seems to have ventured a lot from what has been established. This is similar to TTG! in relation to the “Teen Titans” franchise.

However, what is being done for TC is correct. It is like the phrase “Adapt or die;” you have to keep changing it up to survive or you will belly up. And each series, with its good and bad, has fit in with its respective era.

I am going to watch a few episodes and see what TR is about. Maybe this series will fit the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” But if this series is bad, I will be one if the first people to say so.

Not saying I have high (or really any) expectations of TR. Well, other than it will be very different from the show I love. But it will at least be a correction of Panthro to canon.

If we get a future, serious reboot (which is what I hope the IP being given this iteration will lead to: renewed interest), then hopefully the canon Panthro will be present instead of Jethro.

I have never watched Teen Titans Go.

they basically mock anyone who speaks negatively about teen titans go and act real petty.

let’s be impartial here. This is a review of the thing from someone with no emotional investment to the series at all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5aLAT8f1_k

This review is somewhat pointless. He doesn’t know much about the original Thuindercats or the 2011 series and more to the point no episodes of it have even aired yet. All he is talking about is the art style.

he also mentions the fact that certain people are going around and MOCKING those who have a problem with it. Or are you ignoring that part?
I have my own opinion about the man bun creator said. when he says you can find humor in the original, which had plenty of humor already he TO ME seems to be implying that “there is just so much we can make fun of”.
