The Site Relaunch is underway!! :)

Chris here…

Hey Manny, when I click on that link the page is missing the header, and when I click on one of the page links it takes me back to the forums! However, I suspect that the forum issue may be due to the redirect from http://www.thundercatslair.org/index.php to our forums…

Take care…

Can you guys check the pages again and see if the images (header) show up?

Chris here…

Image header shows up with no problems now!

Clicking a link still navigates to the forums but I suspect this is because of the redirect…?

EDIT: Actually, that statement is only half-true - it would appear on paper as though the links I used prior to the introduction of the permalinks with the page titles in the URLs redirect to the forums, but the ones from after that don’t, which kind-of makes sense…

Take care…

Right

Manny and I checked if it worked when the redirect was disabled and they work properly

Gotta fix the rest of the problems though!

Hey guys, sorry I’ve been so absent lately. For a few reasons I’ve been busy with real life, and also slightly embarassed that I’ve not been lifting my game to get my animation art section done, especially after making such a big noise about others not doing their sections earlier on.

And looks like I’ve missed the excitement brewing over the big news… wow

Awesome.

Just awesome.

Sadly I won’t be able to be around much for the next two weeks or so either, I have some pretty hairy work ahead of me trying to get a new career off the ground. Worst time to be unavailable I know, but I will check in the forums every couple of days to see how things are going.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to getting my sections content ready for the relaunch I am extremely grateful for what you did. I am pumped to see the new site in action.

Chris here…

Hey Mark, it’s awesome to hear from you - did you get the e-mail I sent you?

You’ve no need to apologise my friend, I know better than anyone how much real life can get in the way, LOL! Great to have you with us for this historic weekend in this site’s life, and looking forward to working with you in the coming months to make this site even more awesome than it already is!

BTW, the Animation Art Community Showcase gallery needs some tweaks doing to the index page in order for folks to be able to access it - is it OK with you if I do what’s needed there? LMK ASAP!

Take care…

Mark no need to worry, in the end its about the site in general and we want to see all of the areas launched as complete as possible. If one person cant do it for whatever reason then someone else will help out, thats what makes us such a great team.

Things work out for a reason my friend…events like what happened in December do not have to be such a bad thing after all

Agreed fellas, feeling good about what we’re doing here… awesome energy!

Chris, feel free to 'ave at 'er!

Chris here…

Amen re: the energy - it’s been years since there was this much energy in the team forum, let’s keep it going once we’ve launched as there’s a ton of awesome stuff coming down the pike!

Here you go Mark, here’s the Community Showcase index all done and working: http://www.thundercatslair.org/animated-series/original-series/animation-art/community-showcase/

EDIT: Just to add that all the guidesheets, etc., need re-adding to the new site still, both thumbnails, full-sized images (which ought to be a breeze to do thanks to the Shadowbox plug-in) and the link to same, I’ll be getting on that after we “go live”!

Take care…

If possible, can we give an update on the status of what we’re working on?

I still have to write the editorial for the launch, but it shouldn’t be too hard.

Are we on track for a Sunday launch?

Did you see the Lion-O figure from Mezco?! This thing is amazing! The news just keep on coming!

Chris here…

I’d say go for the Sunday launch regardless, I’m painfully close to getting all the index pages done that need doing in order for folks to access the content we’ve moved / created so far - if any index pages aren’t done, they should be done within hours of launching!

I’ve also de-bugged all the links in the Cartoon Section that needed doing, so whilst there’s still material that needs transferring, everything that’s there should work!

Take care…
Merged Post:
UPDATE:

Whole bunch of updates done to the Toy Section index pages, etc., only Variations index page left to do there. I definitely, 100% think that tomorrow we should relaunch - even if I haven’t finished all the index pages when the button gets pressed, it will be only a tiny delay until I have!

Take care…

Hey guys, I’m all set to push the “launch button” if everyone is ready.

I just finished the editorial and will be posting it on the site shortly. Once that is published, I will wait for Chris to give me the thumbs up!

Neil and I are online via Skype if you guys want to join us!

We’re soooo close!

Chris: I know I was suppose to give you the editorial so that you could add to it, but since I was really busy yesterday, I didn’t have time to do it. So, if you’d like, you can still add to it, or you’re welcome to create a new editorial and publish it in the next couple of days.

Whatever you decide, I’m okay with.

Here’s the editorial I wrote:

Welcome to ThunderCats Lair 3.0!

On behalf of the team, I am excited to finally unveil the brand new design that all of us on the site have been working so hard to complete. We knew that our previous design was getting a bit outdated, not just by the look, but also by how difficult it was to add new content to the site. For the past five years that ThunderCats Lair has been on the web, we have grown into a full-fledge site, including an online community that continues to keep our beloved ThunderCats alive. And so the team agreed it was time to find an alternate solution and create a way that the team and the fans could benefit from.

What’s ironic is, as we approached the completion of the site redesign, news of the anticipated ThunderCats series and toys started to leak out, which only fueled our motivation to get the site done as quickly as possible.

At that point, we knew it was time to share the new site with all of you.

The majority of the content you’ve enjoyed for the past 5 years have been transferred over to the new design, and we will continue to add content until everything is transferred. But what is even more exciting, is that all the content we haven’t been able to add for the past year will now have a place on our site for everyone to enjoy!

And as we continue to learn more about the new series and toys over the next couple of months, the ThunderCats Lair Team will be here every step of the way to excite fans leading up to the official return of the ThunderCats in both animated and toy form!

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone on the team for all their hard work and dedication that has made the site what it is today. Without the tireless commitment from the team, there would be no ThunderCats Lair. And as I pass the Site Leadership role to my fellow team member Chris, I would like to thank the FANS for keeping ThunderCats alive and for supporting ThunderCats Lair!

We would like to also take this opportunity to thank Adam Tyner for helping us fix some bugs that were driving us a little crazy! And also a big thank you to Kyle, who took the time out of his super busy schedule to create our fantastic new logo!

We have waited soooo long for ThunderCats to come back into mainstream media, and it looks like our wait is finally over. From being a trending topic on Twitter, to grabbing the attention of major sites like MTV, it looks like ThunderCats was never really gone; it was just waiting for the right time to make the move.

Now that ThunderCats are on the move…ThunderCats are loose! (Yes, that was geeky, yet so awesome!)

Thanks!

THUNDERCATS, HOOOO!

Chris here…

Hey Manny, awesome editorial!

Nothing I can really add to that, only that Kyle might appreciate it if you used his full name Kyle Lambert - it could work for us too, as by the sounds of things he’s getting lots of media attention out in San Francisco! Other than that, it’s perfect!

For my money I’d say push the button whenever you want, I’m working on index pages right now but they can go up whilst folks are looking round!

Take care…

Sounds good! Just let me add Kyle’s last name, and I’ll publish it, then hit the green light!

Chris here…

Just to say I’ve just put together the Community page - I’ve removed the Guardians of Thundera link from the old site because it was dead, and also removed the screenshots - I think we’ve paid our dues now in terms of not wanting to look big-headed and so heavily endorsing other websites!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/community-main/

If anyone has any links they think we should add (such as toy websites who’ve helped us out, etc.), LMK and I can edit these in!

Take care…

Can we set something up to give away the Season 1 UK ThunderCats DVD set I have that Warner Bros. provided us ages back?

I think it will be a perfect time to do this, to celebrate the site relaunch and new cartoon series  I also want to clear it out too…

I suggested to MannyF a simple easy question that entrants can email the answer, then I just draw one entry out an hat. Though I’m not fussed how it’s decided to be done.

Chris here…

Yep, I’m down with this idea - all we have to do is pick a question and then we can set the wheels in motion! How about “In what episode does Lion-O command Jaga to take his strength?”, as this is my favourite episode from that particular boxed set, LOL!

Take care…

Yeah that’s cool. Should I write something up for the front page? or would you like to do it? Either way definately will mention the DVD set is courtesy of WB.

Chris here…

Feel free to go ahead and do it, Neil - if you wanted to put a spin on why we’ve had it so long, you could say we were keeping it for just the right occasion, LOL!

Take care…

Ok will do later today. The relaunch took longer than expected anyway so I’ll just make out we were saving it for this! I think it will be cool for folk interested in the new series to check out the original. Hopefully there are some folk who don’t already own the episodes…

EDIT: Just put the competition up on the forum and the front page. If anyone wants to advertise this on the Facebook and Twitter pages, by all means please do so!
