The official "What Needs Doing" thread! :)

My update:[ul]
[li]Every page in the Toys, Community, and About sections have been updated and uploaded with the new design ready to overwrite the existing design.[/li][li]With the exception of the Toy Instruction pages, every page in the Toy section that is currently public is complete.[/li][li]Navigation bar links have been corrected on all pages.[/li][*]All pages now work in IE and Firefox browsers.[/ul]Not sure where the rest of the sections are currently at, but if either Chris or Kyle could update with the status and when I need to be on Skype so we can get everything synchronized as soon as possible.

I can’t speak for chris, but I have everything I put my name to except the Animation art done ready to go live

Encyclopedia/ french encyc/ animation art

I intend to get the animation art done asap..
All the other pages will have to be fillers until the content is added… Need Chris to fill in the status on the rest

Are you on Skype right now Kyle?

i can go on for like 10 mins

Hope everything went well with the final kinks of the re-design  I got your reply to my pm Manny, thanks for sorting out the Firefox problem!

I dropped by on Skype in the early hours of this morning as soon as I got in. A little worse for wear so I probably couldn’t have added anything constructive to the mix if everyone was still on anyway! lol

Well just wanted to say you guys have been doing an excellent job and you all rock big time!

so when are we flipping the switch guys? can’t wait to see it!

Mark
aka Grizz

Ok, further to our converstaion on Skype the other evening, I have completed the outstanding pages. The only outstanding section was the Animation Art area, due to the changes Mark wanted. All that is left now is the special features area of the animation art area. I can not find these, they are not linked to and do not seem to be in the folder…

As far as I am concerned I want to get this online as soon as possible. We can add all this content to the holder pages once it is online.

Note to MannyF : The new cartoon section ready for going live is in the /cartoon folder called /cartoon_trial2. This folder needs to replace the existing /cartoon folder (and obviously renamed to /cartoon)

Lets get it live guys!

Chris here…

Excellent work, Kyle my friend - obviously Mark is the best person to say for certain, but all of those pages look great to me! The only minor error I noticed is that this page - http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoon_trial2/animationart/animationart/gallery/14/index.html - has the wrong header. Otherwise, all looks fine IMO!

Those special features pages can be found in Mark’s folder here - http://www.thundercatslair.org/staff/grizzlor/features/ . However, I know that Mark wanted to restructure the Animation Art Section, eliminating the special features subsection from the Animation Art Section and utilising that material elsewhere - details of his plans can be found in post #5 of this thread here - http://www.thundercatslair.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1748 .

I believe Mark also wanted to incorporate the “Exodus pilot materials” feature from the current (and about to be scrapped) “Features” section of the old site design, and incorporate that into the new design - plus, the index page for the Cartoon Section needs updating with text that Mark provided (although this I can easily do). There is, of course, a whole bunch of material to add to this section, but as you say this can be done over the course of the next week or two once the new site design is live!

Take care…

Looks great Kyle.

I completed the Toy Instruction subsection so I’ve completed the areas I committed to. How are you doing on your end Chris? Is the Comics section ready to go live as well?

Once we get the greenlight from Chris, we’ll be all set to make the relaunch live. Almost there guys!

Chris here…

I’m just working on it now - if I’m able to port the 10 pre-existing Marvel Comics pages successfully, plus the couple of pages in the Special Features section, then we should be good to go!

I do have a couple of images that need watermarking with the diagonal watermark that you use, Manny (the same one that you’ve used for the Animation Art stuff) - please would you be able to help me with this?

I’ll let you guys know as soon as I’m finished, it should be (God willing!) within the next 24 hours - however, in the meanwhile I’d refer you to my comments above regarding the Animation Art Section and Mark’s requests for it…

Take care…

Let me know which images need watermarking and I’ll gladly do them before the new design goes live.

As far as the Animation Art section material, I’m not sure if you are referring to me or Kyle about Mark’s requests. I’m not privy to how Mark wants things, so I’m gonna assume you’re speaking to Kyle.

My vacation from school and work is over so that would mean I won’t be online when you guys are on…I’ll be checking the forums for any updates.

Chris here…

OK guys, a quick status update - the Original Comic Art Section is now completed bar me proof-reading and possibly adding a short paragraph to one page, and is uploaded to the main Comics Section folder of the site - check it out!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/comics/gallery/gallery_index.html

I’ve checked that all the links work OK and they seem to - I had to make some corrections to the various index pages to insure that they did, and also had to add a page of artwork that I forgot about! You guys might like to have a gander at this section and confirm for me that it all looks in order - I’m very proud of the Original Comic Art Section, at over 100 pages it’s bigger than many entire ThunderCats websites I’ve seen!

Fantastic Manny, thank you! The ones that need doing can be found on three pages - I would say that the images you see on there link to a larger version (if you click on the image of the artwork on all of these pages you’ll see what I mean), and so obviously both versions will need watermarking. Many thanks for your help, my friend!

Here are the pages:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/comics/gallery/uk/1-cvr/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/comics/gallery/uk/3-cvr/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/comics/gallery/misc/sullivan-cvg/index.html (this is the page I forgot to add!)

I’d also add that there will be one more comics-related page that could do with those “Manny-watermarks”, an addition to the Special Features subsection of the Comic Section - once I’ve moved it to where it should be then I’ll provide a link for that too!

I was basically speaking to Kyle, although I would say that all of Mark’s requests regarding the Animation Art Section are accessible to the whole team via the thread I linked to in my earlier post. What I’m basically saying to everyone is that there are still a couple of bits and pieces that need doing that we need to decide whether or not should be done before the new site design goes “live”.

Another question! As you guys know, the Episode Guide is being completely overhauled, with a new layout and with more episode pages being added on a regular basis. We have 6 episodes done so far (I had hoped to have done more, but time has been my enemy), complete with a good number of large-ish screenshots. Do you guys think we should watermark the screenshots or leave them as they are? I would say that, unlike a lot of the material we have showcased on this site, the screenshots are something that potentially any TCats fan with the right software can create, so whilst we’ve all gone to time and trouble to create them they aren’t anything that’s hard to find (or likely to be regularly ripped off and used as pics for eBay auctions, unlike some of the stuff in the Toy Section for example). However, if you guys feel they should be watermarked then that’s cool, but, IMO that’s something else that needs to be done before the new site design goes live! LMK what you all think should be done there.

Cool stuff, Manny - if you could watermark those Original Comic Art Section images for me that would be a huge help, and we’ll definitely keep you posted how things are going! Many thanks for all your help!

Take care…

Chris here…

OK, my latest update - I’m attempting to add the new header to the pre-existing Marvel Comics pages but I’m having difficulty - when I copy-and-paste the new header in place of the old it screws up the design of the page, messing up how it looks at the bottom. Here’s an example of what I mean:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/staff/chris/messed%20up%20template%20example.JPG

I’ve spent the last half an hour trying to figure out what it is I’m inadvertently doing that has caused this, but the only way I’ve been able to rectify this is by deleting the red area at the bottom of the template instead, which is obviously no good at all. To be blunt, I’m out of my depth. :frowning:

I’m going to be honest and say that I don’t have the time at the moment to mess with this by trial-and-error - if someone can advise me as to exactly what HTML from the new site design needs to be highlighted and copied, and then exactly what needs to be replaced on a pre-existing page in the old site design, then I’ll happily get on it, otherwise I’m afraid it will have to wait for at least another day, possibly until Saturday before I’m able to sit and just delete and then re-add bits of HTML by trial-and-error. :frowning: As always, gentelmen, your help would be appreciated!

Take care…

Will the Marvel pages have the same layout, just with the new design or did you change some things around? If it’s the first option, I can quickly do them…but if the layout has changed, then I’m not sure if I can do that.

Again, let me know so I can help anyway I can.

As for the watermarks, I uploaded them to my staff folder ready to go.

Chris here…

double thumbs up Excellent work on those, Manny, fantastic!

On the subject of the Marvel Comics pages - I had a closer look at the source for them and came to the conclusion that (with no offence meant to yourself Manny) at some point they would actually need rebuilding because the way the code is laid out I would really need Dreamweaver to add new pages! So, I put aside all the other 101 jobs I have to do and had a go at rebuilding the page!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/comics/comic_trial1/marvel/marvel_01/index.html

This ended up taking me God knows how many hours (whenever my last post in this thread was right up to now), but I’m quite pleased with how it displays for me - hopefully it displays OK for you guys too! If this works, I should be able to update this as easily as I can the Episode Guide in the Cartoon Section!

However, the bad news is, I have no idea how to write the HTML code for making a pop-up window appear, sized to take the image intended for it like the Comic Section pages do currently - my attempt at so doing doesn’t seem to have worked. :frowning: Can anybody tell me how to do this? Many thanks!

If you guys could LMK if this template looks OK and then I can (relatively!) easily knock out the other 9 required - many thanks, everyone!

Take care…

So are we any closer to the re-design going live? Are we all set or not?

It’s really close Neil. Hopefully by the weekend we’ll have everything good to go. Chris is just putting the finishing touches on the Comics section.

As a sidenote, I know several people inquired about signing up with Amazon so we could get some revenue going for the site. If someone wants to sign up and make an account for the site, I’ll be happy to add the coding to the front news/update page.

I will look into the Amazon.com affiliates program. I should have mentioned it already and I feel kind of bad not having mentioned it but if everyone sees my signature there is a link that says Toy appraisals for $9.95. I have signed up the TCL.org to receive any revenues from anyone that pays for their services thru the link on my signature. The company www.wiw2u.com has over 100 appraisers for different areas of collecting and so they provide that service for a very affordable price. I tried them just to see how accurate they were and to my amazement they are very accurate at least with the appraisal they provided for me on the Plush Snarf that I have. If it is ok with everyone to place a link for the appraisal affiliates program and the Amazon affiliates program we could start to bring some revenues to cover for the costs we incurr thruought the year.

If this is cool with everyone then we can do this for the benefit of the site.

UPDATE: I have signed up the website for the Amazon Associates program. Manny, I will send you the HTML coding so you can put it on the front page. Also I can send you the code for the Appraisal affiliates program.

Chris here…

Expanding on what Manny said in his earlier post - basically my re-designed comic page (linked to above) displayed with some problems for Kyle on his Mac computer, as (given the bodged-together coding I used) I fully expected it to. The pop-up window wouldn’t work on my original version either. Kyle was too busy to help me, so Manny’s made some corrections to the coding for me that work fine on my browser. I’ve e-mailed the link to Kyle to ask whether or not the page works for him, as yet I’ve had no response.

shrugs Best I can do, guys! If I know that that updated template works I can port over the other 9 comics pages quite easily, that’s basically all that’s holding things up now. Of course there is still then the matter of the 4,500 or so blank pages in the Cartoon Section, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it…

UPDATE: I’ve heard back from Kyle - apparently Manny’s re-design of that page still displays incorrectly for him, for which he has no idea why that can be. Looks like we’ll have to take another look, Manny - Kyle has told me that he’ll be available during the week, so if you aren’t able to locate the problem hopefully Kyle will be able to. LMK your thoughts!

Take care…
