I watched the Toyaddict36 vid and it was very refreshing to see someone quiz Brian a bit on what exactly they’re doing, the reasons behind certain decision and Super 7’s though process in general. Brian clearly stated that they are going for show accurate with a few nods to the LJN figures here or there, and that colours are never meant to represent the LJN figure. This is the standard I have been holding them to with every critique I have made, as has Mark, yet we are shot down for negativity. They cannot make a Liono that is accurate without redoing the torso, fact, stating this is not negative, it’s just what needs to be done to fit the objective stated by Brian. It’s a shame they aren’t doing it for the red Lion-O variant since they are updating some of the other tooling. From the sounds of it in the interview I think they might address this at a later date but these incemental fixes to the main character should have been dealt with from day 1.
If a detail is not accurate to either the animation or the LJN counterpart it shoud be mentioned, by the standard Brian has set, it is incorrect. Mark mentioned Mandora looks spot on apart from her visor, I’d hope they will address this, their goal is show accurate since it can’t be a nod to an LJN figure.
Colour wise, is disheartening to hear him say colours change from screen grab to screen grab, this means they are using inaccurate reference. The colours for the show are the animation cels. If they ever remaster the show properly everyone will have to get used to the fact that how they are used to seeing the characters is not the original intent of the show designers, but limitations of the days technology. There are some episodes that are actually, fortunately, quite accurate, most not so much. They should take the time to make sure their reference is right. Go and watch Totem of Dera on the PAL boxed set. The only episode struck from a HD master and the colours and detail are astounding, very cel accurate.
Scale wise, it’s nice to even hear that raised as a point since I didn’t think it was a concern for them, but it sounds like they are using it in terms of, this guy should be big, this guy is small, and not making them accurate to how they should scale to one another as a group. Shame.
Sebastian, I think I see now why you how zero objectivity, will contradict things you already said and continually move goal posts when asked about details concerning these figures. You’ve gone from seeing a line of figures you were desparate to succeed go down the pan, to “fighting for the line” when it looked dead, to having a direct contact to the guy who resurrected the line. You’ve been made a mod on the forum and are chumming it up with people who get figures early. You are so scared for this thing to not fail again or lose your position at the table that anything not overtly positive you see as a threat to all these things. I hope you can see that Brian has now clearly stated the parameters for the line and also that he is fine with being asked the tough questions. He has stated they are in it for the long haul and only by reviewing and giving feedback on all their announcements can we hope to help them achieve their stated goal of “show accurate”. Not in the vein of, reminiscent of, or sort of reminds me if I look at sideways, but show accurate (with the occassional LJN nod).
