I’m so glad for this thread! I just recently got a Bengali off of the bay, and there is minimal paint loss, but he suffers from a severe case of the spots! His arms and legs are very age spotted (something that the seller did not disclose to me). Is there anything that gets rid of/tones this down, or is painting over it pretty much the only option?
I am not aware of any way to remove the spots. I have tried several different methods with no luck. I believe that is actually the plastic used in these later figures that sometimes begins to “break down”. If someone knows exactly why these spots appear I would be interested to here the official reason.
I think you summed it up really. It’s the plastic used on the series 3 figures beginning to break down

The tip for loose limbs Adssse mentioned worked a treat!
My Slythe figure has one loose leg, I found a small rubber band and wrapped it around the top of the leg and it has helped steady him. From the front you can’t even see it’s there 
Glad to hear you had some success with this. I have been meaning to try, but dont have any small bands around the house right now…
This is really the million dollar question. Last time I pulled my Pumyra out of storage she had developed spots on her legs (she went in pretty near mint). It bothers me enough that I may break down and buy another Pumyra, but then there is not guarantee that the next won’t get spotty either.
Here’s another Thundercat toy restoration tip I’ve used many times:
Is your Sword of Omens or Cheetarah’s staff bent out of shape? Warm it up with a hair drier set on high for ~10-20 seconds (or as needed). The plastic will become soft and malleable for a few seconds so that you can straighten it out before it cools off and becoming hard again. Be careful not to over-heat your Sword of Omens as the paint on the blade could get cracked.
That’s exactly what I did with Classic Mumm-Ra’s helm bandages to stop them being so horizontally sticking out his head. Also I often to it various figures Swords (my 6 and 8 inch Classic Lion-O’s Sword of Omens included) when they start to flop and get out of shape.
I recently bought a lot of figures off ebay. One had a leg that was somewhat scratched up (nothing too deep). I found that using a electric drill with a cloth buffing bit smoothed it out pretty good as well as keeping a decent shine too it. Not perfect, but definitely better than it was!
Do you plan to restore the rest of your old “ThunderCats” figures, adssse?
I am not sure how much restoration I will do. There are allot of things I would like to try/do, but it always seems like I am short on time to start anything too major. The scratches were something small that I could tackle fairly quickly. I am always interested in others restorations for inspiration and ideas!
