As for transferring vhs into a digital format, I tried that once. No tv was involved - I had a vcr hooked up to the computer after I installed the proper connections in the back of the tower, and was able to preview the vhs stuff on the computer screen. But for the life of me I couldn’t get the software I had to ‘capture’ it digitally.
So for now I stick with the easy stuff - ripping from dvds or things that have already been encoded :-p
There must be stuff out there. Actually thinking about it, I seem to remember seeing a program like that called Gold Weave or something.
I have the programs and equipment, the problem is with the operator - me! :duh:
I Digitalize all of my VHS Tapes using my Mac.. I just bought an analogue TV Converter. Can plug it into VHS, DVD, Digital Boxes, Computers etc.. and record it all into any format..
So thats what you need… I’d do it myself but i don’t wanna get into any illegal distribution of content issues

Yeah we had the deleted scenes on the site before the site was redesigned. Those pages will be back soon so if you guys haven’t seen them yet, you’ll be able to in a week or two.
If your looking to get your VHS stuff on DVD, you just need a good DVR that has RCA inputs. Simply plug your VCR into the DVR, play the tape and record it to a DVD on the DVR. I’ve put most of my VHS stuff on DVD and tossed out the old tapes.
You can also do DVD to DVD this way as well.
If your VHS tapes are copyrighted, you will need a small decoder that bridges the connections between the two devices and strips the copyright.
Obviously the original tape of Exodus for example will never officially come out on DVD, so putting your VHS copy on DVD even if you need to strip the copyright is no crime. I had stuff on VHS that I transferred just in time, as some of the tapes were pretty well worn out from time and heat/humidity.
Your just saving your investment from the perils of time.
Sounds like a pretty good idea actually. At some point I need to get my copy of the Flight of Dragons on DVD, as that thing is as rare as rocking horse feceas.
I know this thread is kind of old, but I wanted to revive it a bit. 
Reading this talk about having the Exodus movie transferred digitally to DVD got me to thinking. I have the same problem that I seriously need to do something about. I have a copy of it myself – well, not all of it. Just the Exodus part (including the extra scenes and the “lost intro” 
) and the first couple minutes of Unholy Alliance. It was recorded onto a standard VHS with another movie. I don’t even remember where we got it – probably “borrowed” off an existing copy (we tended to do that – we still do it with DVDs. :eek: ) Anyway, I luckily rediscovered it at my parents’ soon after I had gotten the DVDs and realized that just enough was recorded on that tape to make a perfect alternate first episode. (I call it “Exodus Extended Edition”. ) I’ve been watching that instead of the DVD version of Exodus for obvious reasons, but that tape is old and I’m worried about it wearing out, especially the way I watch it. (A lot.) The major problem is I don’t have the equipment to transfer VHS to DVD. I don’t even know anybody or anywhere that does. So it’s a real dilemma. Eventually, I will lose a treasured piece of my childhood forever if I don’t do something. But what can I do? 
I converted my tape to DVD, and Im working on a combined version with all the stuff cut from the VHS and from the series spliced together.

Would you happen to know how to tell the UK version apart from the US version?

There’s a number of ways, all involving Panthro and scenes that were cut by UK censors involving his martial arts action, but the one that I can immediately think of is in “the lost intro”. When Panthro is introduced in the US version of “the lost intro” you see him doing some trademark nunchuku spinning - in the UK version, this has been replaced by the shot of him straightening out a pipe in “The Unholy Alliance”.
Also, in the US version of the “Exodus” video you see the full fight scene that takes place between Panthro and S-S-Slithe in “The Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr”, complete with (IIRC) a different segment of the Panthro music score to the one heard in the stand-alone episode! In the UK version, again IIRC, the fight scene cuts from S-S-Slithe’s line “I am not impressed, Panthro”, straight to Panthro’s line “We’ll finish this hand-to-hand”, cutting out the whole fight scene in the middle! The complete irony of this is that when the stand-alone “Slaves of Castle Plun-Darr” episode was broadcast on the BBC, that fight scene was left intact (with the original score)!

If by “them” you mean how can you tell the difference between the UK and US video releases of the “movie version” of “Exodus” I talk about in my post above - the very easy way to identify them is that one should be in NTSC (American format) and the other one in PAL (European format), and if you were looking at them on eBay the seller should state this.
Also - the UK release was released by a company called The Video Collection, whilst the US release was by a company called Family Home Entertainment (FHE). This is the US version:
