I can appreciate that you liked the style of “Sixth Sense”, but I personally felt it was sub-par for Thundercats. The only other episode that I think had some of the same style was “Divide and Conquer”, but I’m not positive.

I’ve also noticed the sepia tone. In “Excalibur” it is way too rich for me to think it wasn’t deliberate. However, I’ve also felt that there were a couple of other episodes that have a semblance of that “sepia-like” fade to it. “Catfight” is one example but there it is so light that it feels more like a color-correctness error of some kind. Oh, and “The Mountain” looks like another candidate for it being deliberate. Note that both “The Mountain” and “Excalibur” are among the more “dramatic” episodes. I wonder if the sepia-type filter was chosen to compliment that? We gotta find some the animators to get our questions answered.

I’m loving this topic. I’m impressed with how well versed everyone is in the intricacies of our favorite show!

The first half of “The Superpower Potion” was sepia-toned as well, and “Out of Sight,” “Lion-O’s Anointment: The Trial of Evil,” “Leah,” “Frogman,” “The Heritage,” and “Screwloose” were totally sepia’d.

Yer right. I guess I always took that as the animators trying to distinguish the “atmosphere” of New Thundera. But it woulda been better had it been consistent.

The characters and settings seemed muted while the “purple” tone was in place.

I think I prefer the purple tint to the yellowish tint, if we had to pick. The yellowish tint somehow makes the animation seem old or damaged, but I know this is how they appeared on their first broadcast.

In Season Two, “ThunderCats Ho! Part Three” is pretty great. Lots of beautiful backgrounds and iconic sequences

Is that the one with the mummy wrappings attacking Lion-O? That sequence is sweet.

There is one part in either Part Four or Part Five of “Ho!” that really leaps out … Slithe fighting the new trio in a cave. Slithe is colored so dark he’s almost black instead of green. You know the part I mean? It’s really striking, and looks a lot cooler than the sequences around it.

This does seem like it could have been deliberate. There are two episodes … I think it’s “Return to (New) Thundera Part Four” and then “Cracker’s Revenge” … where the tone and overall look seems to be more “classic” Thundercats. And those two episodes just happen to be set almost entirely on Third Earth. That can’t be coincidence, can it?

Oh! I also want to add “Book of Omens” as having some of the best animation in the series. I think you can tell the animators went all out to try and make the episode special, at least with the animation.

Yeah! Some great moments in that one. It’s a shame that the story is a bit .. off …

At times, “ThunderCats, Ho!” Part 3 was beautifully animated. In some parts the animation lacked detail.

Speaking of the few purple-tinted season-four episodes, “The Tower of Traps” and “The Ghost Warrior” in season one kinda had a purple tone.

I’m sure any episodes that have a tint to them it is unintentional. Probably just been transferred to tape with some incorrect setting. It’s a shame the DVD’s didn’t go back to the original elements and just used broadcast master. Can you imagine how good this show would look remastered on bluray?

The original masters for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Pee-wee’s Playhouse were remastered for Blu-ray, so why can’t the same thing apply to the original ThunderCats? :panthro

Sadly, I just don’t know if Thundercats has a large enough audience to go through the painstaking process and expense. Plus, something that always holds the Thundercats property back is that there really isn’t a “creator” or person behind it pushing it to the forefront. It feels like its just a property that belongs to the WB and when they feel like they could earn some money off of it, they pull it outta mothballs to see what happens.

It’s totally true. Topcraft changed themselves into Studio Ghibli.

If I was a billionaire, I would buy the TC’s property of WB and get a new season done that follows the same style, story line and animation of the original series just for the fans!!! LOL :tongue
