The problem with the Bandai line was that whilst the toys were not great, although like you said were getting better, they should have been the best they could be from the start. Pretty much the same thing that caused the cancellation of the 2011 cartoon. It wasn’t great and took far to long to get good.
It is also worth mentioning that with the 2011 toyliine Bandai invested for more in it than Mattel did with Classics. They all had quite cartoon accurate sculpts and 100% unique sculpts. Unlike Mattel’s Classics which re-used a lot of the MOTUC bock body parts.
Good point! I don’t want to go off topic because this is a Thundercats board but the "Back To The Future’ hover board was amazing and the thought of someone making complaints to ToyGuru or whoever at Matty because it didn’t float in mid air had me shocked!!
I guess Matty should put on the package in bold letters “This will NOT hover” lol
Not sure about Mattel as I think they are used to complaining by now, but you make a valid point about Bandai. People were going insane over uncolored ankle pegs for the classic line. Also, folks went nuts about the scale too, forcing Bandai to switch to 6 inch, ultimately depriving us of 2 additional figures, Cheetara and possibly, Panthro!
I know Mattel is capable of pulling miracles, especially if enough interest is generated. I wonder if they will listen to the fans regarding Cheetara and Tygra. I still don’t get the whole deal with the new He-man x TC comics. SMH
I loved the 8" scale for Bandai’s line. Made them unique. I don’t mix series in my displays so it was a non issue for them to be out of scale with other lines. They weren’t the greatest figures, but I was over the fucking moon when that line came out. I was elated when Mattel announced the Cats as well, but I feel all that momentum is gone from the brand. Unless Mattel proper announces more Cats, I really think there isn’t much hope for this license with its current track record.
I know it sounds a bit harsh lol. Just not keen on time travel movies at all. Aside from the time travel though they are enjoyable in parts. The third movie especially.
There’s been great MOTUC buck customs in the past. I really think Mattel doesn’t have that much work to get the rest of the figures out. I guess we’ll see what the future holds. Not sure how long Mattel has the license for and if they can cancel it. If only Mezco would make smaller versions of their Cheetara and Tygra - their sculpts are great (apart from Tygra’s grin / roar).
This is going to be far fetched but I wish we could start a fund that will acquire the license and such and ask a company to produce the line. i know wishful thinking.
Although realistically after two EPIC FAILED ATTEMPTS to deliver a 6inch highly articulated TC figures there is prob slim to non chance someone will do this line justice…I’ll continue to buy any TC product…I’m eagerly awaiting the Mattel figures…I personally bought 5 subs…it’s a shame cause I’m my opinion they were looking amazing…and FH were the perfect guys to do this…anyway…if any other company ever decides to take another shot at the 6inch scale…like has bro…dc…anyone…ill buy everything they make…on another note…is there anyone that could ask someone from the FH what happened…and how they feel bout the cancellation?
Not that far fetched really. With all the uproar out there, I think TC fans are making themselves heard. I recall the MOTUC fans were going on for quite a while and look what happened - instead of just giving up on them, Super 7 took this as their chance to make money off them. Is there no company out there that wants my money??? Here - come take it!!! I’m offering it to you freely!!! (Don’t pull a Gandalf on me and say you can’t take it!!!):mamutt
I wonder…if there is even the slightest chance Mattel would take notice of TC fans and somehow continue the line…even if just to complete core team…maybe I’m a little delusional…
