If You Could Re-Write An Episode Of Thundercats Which Would It Be?

Except that wasn’t went too well LOL

I never understood why in that episode trhey all attacked Mumm-Ra and teh Mutants directly. Wouldn’t it have been better to use Cheetara’s speed, Tygra’s invisibility and Panthro’s extendable arms to get back what they were looking for (was it the book of omens or one of the power jewels?). What writers do in order to show the main hero’s (Lion-O) strenght and why the second one (in this case Tygra) would never be worthy of that title.

So that they could show how much Tygra sucks I guess.

I would even argue that the Lunataks were a worthy inclusion in the way that Starr wrote them. They were legitimate threats at that point.

My point exactly. I don’t like the Lunataks, but that is just a matter of individual taste. And you are technically right that in their introduction, they were a genuine threat.

yeah and then the gimmick wore off. the same can sadly be said for Mumm-Ra as the series progressed.

Yes, but after their debut, that was their only real appearance as a threat.

I really don’t get why Tygra and Pumyra were left on Third Earth. I can understand writing Tygra out in a toy selling ploy. But for that to make any sense they could have left Tygra, Cheetara and Panthro behind. The new toy series had Pumyra, Lynxo and Bengali and they were what was on toy shelves so why not make them the main focus of stories so they will be bought.
It even makes sense from a writing stand point.
I would re-write an episode, maybe a 3 parter, explaining that since Lion-O learned pretty much all he could from the other Thundercats it was time for him to learn new skills from Lynxo, Bengali and Pumyra.

Another episode I would re-write is Thundercats Ho 1-5. As much as I enjoy Starr’s episodes I did not overly like how Bengali, Pumyra and Lynxo are portrayed in those episodes.
All 5 parts are the Cats going on a rescue mission to save them. So they aren’t exactly seen as very competent warriors until they kind of escape on their own in part 5.

I would have the roles reversed and had the original Cats captured and Lion-O seeking out the new Thundarians on the island then with them going on a quest to save the other Thundercats.

True. The NS definitely portrayed Lion-O’s weaknesses much more than the original though. The other members of the team were not relegated to “helpers” as much.

That’s true. That’s precisely why that episode bugged me though. For a strategist who has always wanted to be king, Tygra’s srtategy was very poor.

Making him fail with a good plan would have had the same effect. Again, for a guy who was a militar strategist, that action didn’t fit the character at all.

The writing potential is screaming for an episode where Lynxo teaches Lion-O to rely on his other senses to fight an enemy he cannot see by listening for sounds, vibrations of the ground, smells etc.

I always just assumed that since they were holding them at firerock mountain for the other Thundercats that the Mutants could not transport prisoners on their skycutters and nosediver.

Here is another point. The toys are in their Thundercats outfit. Yet in the 5 part movie they are in those costumes for what 20 seconds? I know this isn’t a problem for people outside the UK but for us in the UK the movie was the only exposure we would have to these characters. Regardless of episodes after the movie they should have been in their outfits a lot longer.
It’s kind of like if when the Star Wars toys originally came out they only made a figure of Luke dressed in the ceremonial outfit he wore for like 1 minute at the end of the movie and not the outfit he wore for the rest of the movie. Of course over the years Star Wars have made figures of every character in every outfit they wore in every scene from the movies lol…but you get what I mean.

Day 1 - Trial of darkness - Lion-O has to race Lynx-O through a treacherous path while wearing a blindfold
Day 2 - Trial of smithy - Lion-O has to make more metal weapons than Bengali
Day 3 - Trial of altitude - Lion-O has to jump higher than Pumyra (becoz honestly that’s the only thing I remember Pumyra doing most of the time!)
Day 4 - Trial of gastronomy - Lion-O has to order and eat more Mexican food than Snarfer.

Then again, maybe it’s a good thing that these second Trials never happened! LOL :biggrin

I always thought that there should have been some anointment trials episodes with the new ones, BUT they were anointed by Lion-O, so maybe that’s the reason why he didn’t have to prove himself better than them. I mean, they were not Noble after all, and had no part in Lion-O’s training to become the Lord of the TCs.

Anyway, I used to think of these scenarios:

Even more, when the new TCs were introduced, I used to think/wish (remember I was a kid and wishing was impossible LOL) that Lynx-O and Pumyra would have been part of the team from the very beginning as Noble TCs as well (no Benagli at all, like never), and the anointment trials could have lasted a whole week instead of just five days:

NOTE: I know every trial demanded both physics and brains, but you get the idea, don’t you?

Also, I’d have re-writtern either “Micrits” or “Return to Thudnera” (or both) to have the TCs solve a problem without Lion-O and the SoO. I was looking for that to happen in “Micrits”. “Return to Thundera” could have been a good chance too: let Lion-O travel back in time and center his journey on finding about himself and his father, and have the TCs defeat that robot in Third Earth on their own.

Just re-watched “Time Switch” and just realized many of the things we say we’d have seen on Tygra happen there. In that episode, he kind of takes leadership of the TCs as Lion-O goes back to being a baby, and the episode hhighlightens his scientific skills (as he calcultes Lion-o’s reversed life-span), and he cvomes with some ideas on how to solve teh situations that they have to handfle (taking Lion-O to the Cavern of Time, passing him thought the cell door bars to open it from the outside). Of course, he didn’t get enough credit at the end; although to be honest, it was him, by not handling well that bulldoze, who removed the time capsule that caused the whole suituation to start with LoL.

Also, I don’t get the words exactly, but I think Panthro mentions his own mother at the end.

And, even when Lion-o calls for the SoO and the Eye, we can say it was the TCs who solve the problem without him and help him (Lion-O didn’t even remember/understand what happened).

Overall, a good episode that might be underrated.

Maybe not so much a Trial episode but they could definitely do episodes where their skills come into play to teach Lion-O some important lessons.

When faced with some enemy that could turn invisible that they could not see Lynxo could teach Lion-O to use his other senses. Somewhat like Obi-Wan in A New Hope.

Lion-O and Bengali could be in a situation where they have to construct new armour and weapons.

On a mission with Pumyra, perhaps at the Warrior Maiden’s village, Lion-O could learn the importance of healing knowledge that Pumyra has. A little scenario in my head is perhaps at some festival Pumyra gets goaded to join in the festivities to prove her worth as a warrior, racing through trees etc, but even though Pumyra is winning, when Willa, Nyda or one of the others get hurt Pumyra abandons the race and has to heal her with whatever supplies the warrior maidens have available.

You guys got some real good ideasfor trials. But didn’t Lion-O say THEY had to go through the trials? Does this mean at some point the cats each had to go up against Mumm-Ra by themselves? XD
