Hmmm, it looks like there aren’t instructions, no. So, hotlinking is when you embed an image from a different site, using its original URL from that site. It’s called “hot”-linking because every time this forum page is loaded, that site’s servers are asked to to serve the image—the link is always being fetched, always hot—which eats into the bandwidth allowance of whoever’s site it is (in this case, it was Purrsia’s). The etiquette of not hotlinking dates to a time when bandwidth costs were higher and data caps were lower, but (correct me if I’m wrong, everyone) the custom is still worth respecting.
What most of us do is upload the image to an image-hosting service, and then use that service’s URL, or we upload to the forum directly. I used to use DropBox public links, and now I use the Tapatalk app’s built-in image uploader. Wilycub uses the forum’s upload feature. ButterflyBoy uses photobucket. These are all fine options.
