Too bad there wasn’t an episode where the sword didn’t become the fix all well… there was one. The final episode of Lion-O’s trials where he actually had to use his dang brain to deal with the problem. He also must be freakin strong because that stone sarcophagus probably weighed a TON!

Actually all five trials were good in that respect as he had to face them all unarmed.
“The Wolfrat” is another good example as it was Tygra who used his scientific skills to create an antidote to the shrinking potion - not that he got any credit for it at the end mind you, but it was very definitely Tygra and not Lion-O who got them out of the predicament they were in.

“The Wolfrat” would have been a very good chance to make up for Tygra among fans and portray him as an important member of the team, besides showing kids the awesomeness of science

Well, they did show it, they just didn’t draw attention to it, nobody said at the end that it was his scientific knowledge and skills that saved the day, they just had a joke with Snarf still being big - and saying the effects of the potion should wear off in a day or so . . . er, wtf? Hang on, does that mean it’s going to wear off on all of them in a day or so? Someone got careless!

Definitely. Like in Transformers, G.I. Joe, TMNT and other shows they didn’t always send in the biggest, bravest and strongest with the fanciest weapon, they sent in the member best qualified to succeed on the mission.
‘‘Pum-Ra’’ is a great example of when Thundercats actually did this by having Tygra volunteer to go, but Lion-O to say he should go then Jaga to intervene and tell him that it should be Tygra as in this instance ‘‘ingenuity is called for, not bravery and strength’’.

Or when Snarf got to Sword’s chamber in “Tight Squeeze”.
They got terribly lazy later on, now didn’t they? Too bad a whale didn’t eat the sword of omens or it stayed inside that black hole for a few episodes.
Even when he left the sword behind like he did in “Exile Isle”, it followed him anyway! 
Exactly. “Exile Isle” is possibly the worst shoehorning of the catchphrase into an episode ever. Funny, how in “Tight Squeeze”, Lion-O acknowledges that “real strength doesn’t come from a weapon, real strength comes from inside” - shame nobody told the writers about this!
And agreed on other shows making use of whichever character is most suited to the mission in question. In most shows, it’s about a whole team, not just one hero who has to save the day every time. Much as I love Thundercats, this detail of the format really gets my goat every time.
