I am new to site but found this thread in your archives…this is what is confusing me…
Merged Post:
I have a carded north american ben-gali, a foreign carded ben-gali, and a loose Playful Bengali
By North American he means UK/US and foreign he means European?
Yep North America = US I do know the Tygra with straps on the underneath of his feet was released in the UK and the UK releases tended to mirror the USA ones…
It’s possible they were throwing out left over figure at the end of line and they were being sold in different territories. I’ve never really looked into the ‘EL’ on the figures thing…
So to conclude this discussion. The EL stamped white mould/blue paint larger figure will be catergorised as North American/United Kingdom variant, and the smaller unstamped EL blue mould/white paint be catergorised as a European mainland variant.
EL stamped variants do need some more investigation into I feel, as ‘‘Thunderianroyalguards’’ post is contradictory to our conclusions. Why would EL stamped variants have slightly different colours and often have small differences in design if they are the US/UK variants where the major productions took place is the question we would need to put forward to discuss…
Thank you blackiecats for clearing this up for me…
Another minor variation: I have two Ben-Gali’s, both presumably US (I didn’t own them new, but they were from people in the US who were just casual ThunderCats fans, so I highly doubt they were hunted down overseas or anything) and they have reversed numbers on their feet.
Both have the legal markings on Ben-Gali’s right foot, but on one it’s accompanied by a 1 with a 2 on the opposite foot, and the other figure the numbers are reverse.
I had a Euro Bengali MOC that was the figure you have labelled as ‘US’ in your loose pics. I’d always identified the one on the left as US/UK and the one on the right ‘Euro’
Hmm that’s very interesting as I’d always identified them in reverse order. Next time I bring out my collection I will take a look and verify which one has the stamp, but I could have sworn it was the more aqua colored Bengali. I also have a carded American Bengali and I would be interested to see what shade of blue he is and what stamp is on his foot. From the pic I have I can’t really tell.
I’ve always wished we could get an interview with someone whom was in charge of or worked closely with the distribution of these figures. It would shed some much needed light on what went where and what exactly all the production numbers at the bottom of the feet mean.
It looks like I may have had my Bengali’s mixed up. I checked my carded American Bengali and he is the more light aqua color and does have EL stamped on his foot.
