Before I get to the figure, I’m pretty certain BBTS isn’t sold out of figures. If you notice it says ‘Placeholder’ beside each Bandai entry. I’m fairly certain those are just there for items they will put up at a future time and they are intentionally set to ‘Sold Out’ to keep people from pre-ordering them until BBTS is ready. Also it isn’t like there’ll just be one shipment of these figures and that’s it, so I really don’t think they’re sold out. They’ll have more up sometime later.
Now about Lion-O, wow that hair is…BRIGHT (not in a good way)! It almost looks like they used a slightly translucent plastic?? It really looks so off kilter that I’m hoping someone can pass along information to them in time to get a production run change to darken the red on the hair (or use a less translucent looking plastic).
The cat symbol on both the belt and the eye of thundera look incredible. However the sword to me seems too tall (just like the sword on the 3.75" scale one). Its so comically big that it reminds me of the Robot Chicken episode Lion-O is in where he’s fighting the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz (“Just keep saying Thunder!!”)
That piece the claw shield attaches to on the belt really sticks out like a sore thumb on this pic though. I’d almost rather there not be a way to attach it to the belt than to have that, because you can’t help but notice that it isn’t supposed to be there (unless its just there for the prototype fig but the real one will use a magnet).
If not, why couldn’t they have used a magnet on the side of the belt (this Thunder Lynx system on the 3.75" line is magnetic isn’t it?), or have the belt not be flush and have a notch cut out that the claw shield could slide down into?
The only other thing that worries me is quality. MOTUC is having quality issues at $20 a fig. This one is supposed to be $16.99 I think I remember reading? I just have to wonder if Bandai is much more efficient in other areas that they can still turn a profit at that price using the same quality plastics that Mattel uses, or if its a lower grade plastic that will result in problems like breakage.
Note - I hope they go with some sort of laminated packaging to overcome the shoddy packaging that you see on the MOTUC/DCUC figs at retail, and the less than desirable MOTUC online figures. Not likely, but I can still hope.
This is hopefully a prototype figure and all issues will be addressed before it goes into production.
I still think it looks fantastic. The sculpt looks durable and solid like MOTUC figures.
I don’t think they will be better than MOTUC but they look solid enough to be compared with the DCUC/WWE figures from Mattel
Side-by-side, they definitely look amazing. Hands down, the size, articulation and design similarities are intentional.

Oh I’ll definitely be getting several, but some of the stuff I point out keep it from being a truly epic figure IMO.

Hes too skinny, too tan, and has a funny look on his face. I’ll pass. Add this to the monumental list of inaccurate likeness Tcat figures. This is getting frustrating.
Not too crazy about it as of now, the neanderthal brow is a turn off lol!
Perhaps you should compare this new Lion-O to the vintage LJN version?
could the hair be anymore flaming? geez, i may have to repaint it to be normal
and also why does lion-o have a sword holder on his hip. the sword of omen comes from the glove, always has if i remember correctly.

I am already dreading the comparrison to the motu"loose joint, wrong feet, wrongshoulder,etc"c…just enjoy them for what they are.
I guess I’ll do what I did 20 years ago to my Ninja Turtles’ eye pupils to make them look more like their cartoon counterparts: paint!
