The trouble on here is that all of us want the 80’s toys re-done so we can collect them as it saves us hundreds on buying the originals-and they would look the same!-it is true
I don’t think the 80’s line will happen and the ones next year will look similar to Ben 10 figures and will be no-where near as good as the 80s line-toys and manufacturing has changed and our excitement of playing with the 80s figures have finished as we aren’t going to appreciate seeing the new bandai line as we will only be looking at them-not playing with them.
I expect a 4/5 inch toy line with the thundertank/mummra crypt and maybe a thundercats lair with the usual figures but thats it. I am sure there will be new characters out to attract new viewers
I’d love to have the classics line done in a bigger scale than the ones for the new series. Maybe 6 inch as opposed to the new series 3&3/4 inch ones. I’d also love some kind of retro packaging too.
the old LJN Thundercats toyline was a phenomenal success,even to this day with many statues coming out by various companies, the 80’s figures are still very expensive and people from all over the world seem to be very interested in purchasing them.
I am afraid you might be right about the new toyline, but maybe Bandai will exceed our expectations and produce great Thundercats. LJN prior to Thundercats hadn’t done such a great job in toys(Wrestling superstars,Tigersharks,Indiana Jones …) either.

I thinking that hoping for a prototype showing is too much this far out, but I really hope they have some sort of presence at SDCC devoted to Thundercats. I’m sure they probably will have a panel of sorts so I hope some plans about how they are going to address both licenses gets released to the fans then.
Anybody going that would be willing to point blank bring up the fears that a lot of fans have that Thundercats will look as mediocre as Ben 10 figures do to adult fans and ask what Bandai is willing to do to make the line not only appeal to new kids but to the older adult fans of the 80s show as well?

At this point, I doubt you’ll see anything before SDCC. Not sure how far along in production they are, as to if anything is shown at SDCC. I am hopeful though, and I bet we get a decent dose of Thundercats stuff (by stuff I mean statues and possibly new images from WB on the new show??) I wouldn’t expect anything before then though.
Just saw something up at toyark from Bandai. They have a new Master Grade series of Dragonball Z figures out that are highly articulated and highly poseable. Actually look really impressive. Probably wouldn’t be anything we would see for the new series, but this could be the direction they go for the 80s line for adult collectors.

I was referring to the level of articulation, not the look of the figure. I doubt the 80s Thundercats figures will have the anime look. I also doube they will have the muscle gimmic in the promo either, but that is actually an impressive mechanism. I was referring to the level of articulation. Don’t know if you collect MOTUC or not, but the level displayed on those new DBZ figs is on par with what Mattel currently offers, so I don’t see how anyone could be disappointed unless you are a Sideshow Collectibles collector. If the price point of those DBZ figs is on par with what mattycollector is offering, it is a great sign for the 80s property. This is coming from probably the most negative person that posted on here about Bandai getting the license.

Though i am not a big fan of articulation points, Bandai’s Super Saiyan Son Goku and Son Goku look great, i like the vibrant colours and the 100% faithful represantation to the anime image.
A couple of things to remember - these are “Master Grade” figures, they are model kits which you put together yourself, they are 1/8th scale (9") and I can’t tell from the article if they are Bandai Japan imports or Bandai America products.
Also they would probably cost about $30-50.
All this means that I think that they are unlikely to be anything like the Thundercats toys which we’ll see here.
(But they do look cool)

I still believe that, while I agree with you on the new show, I still believe the level of articulation for the 80s property will be on par here, because it would have to be targeted almost exclusively to older adult collectors that would want something equivalent to the offering of NECA in terms of articulation.
Personally, if nailed to a choice, I’d want exact character likeness over articulation. But that’s just me.
I would love to see a variety of action features (not just the standard battle-matic action) on the classics portrayal. It would be a nice homage to the original line. I’m pretty sure this won’t happen, but it would be a great nod if it did. I too would also really like the accuracy to the old show to be nailed as much as possible. I don’t think you have to sacrifice likeness for articulation at all so I’m sure you won’t be disappointed purely in one area because of the other.
I’m also extremely cautious about getting my hopes up on this because, well it is Bandai again (even with some of their impressive Japanese figures…still doesn’t give me much hope). Maybe WB will force their hand tho.

i hope we get some villians never before released, or at least a new vehicle for the mutants. Rataro’s ship, or vultureman’s bird jet would all be awesome!
id like to finally see some of the more obscure characters like mole man, driller, etc. get made!
Actually The Driller was made. But I agree, the Rat Star and VultureMan’s Flying Machine would be nice. A double bonus would be if they were to the same scale as the LJN line so you could mix and match the new and old figures…
oh yeah i know the driller was made, but as a kid i never even knew, not untill i got older and saw it on the internet. i wish the more obscure villians were easier to come by. and i totally agree that it would be awesome if they made figure in scale with the LJN figures, but i bet they’ll probably go for something around the scale of Ben 10. Kind of a bummer, but i guess its better for vehicles to be incorporated. Maybe we’ll get a Mandora with her speeder!
