Just giving the summary my two cents on the show as of right now (I could go on about it for hours):
I think the show started off with a strong impression with the pilot episode. it seemed to set up the series to not only rival the old series (feel like using OS would make people think of ThunderCats) but even be better than it. However, it seems as if each episode just keeps making me like it less and less. Minus the preview clips that Nick gives out, the plot seems to be getting rather predictable and the overall epic feel seems to have died off after the third or fourth episode. I remember not really liking the first season of The Last Airbender as much as I liked the other seasons, but it was still decent. I also feel that even though the action scenes are visually appealing, the characters are not bending/fighting to their full potential, or even half that in some cases.
Also, the show overall just doesn’t have the same vibe as the old series. I really miss having comic relief (though Bolin is okay at it) and the change of locations throughout the episodes. Them being confined to Republic City is going to get boring after awhile.
A final thing; the “shipping” in this show is almost out of control. The creators teased us with Zutara and Kataang, but now it’s impossible to tell what Mako really wants. It seems like Bolin gets forgotten in the mix and Korra is just some ignorant girl with a crush on the tough guy (Mako). Not only that, Asami is a great character forever confined to the side of Mako. No0t to say they shouldn’t have a relationship, but she really hasn’t done much else other than kiss him and hold his hand.
I really like the bending to. But, I wish I could see more of the new world. The series is only suppose to have 26 episodes which is lame. So, the whole series is probably going to be in Republic city. But if the ratings are really strong and the fans are wild about it maybe we will get more. Just like how the OS did.
I dunno what everyone here are talking about , so far I just love what they did to avatar . they don’t just re-use what they have already done in the first series . but alot has evolved in the world there . not only the cars and other technology . but it’s cool to see a metal bender police system (though too bad they can’t have guns) and overall acity where all type of benders hang out .and I’m not too crazy about the pro-bending stuff , but it’s not bad .
The characters grew up on me alot easier than the OS ones (some of them sitllalive , and old , others we will probably see in flashbacks ,something I am waiting to see) . Korra is cool and it’s interesting that unlike our previous avatar she didn’t get to the avatar state yet , not even once ! plus I prefer Pabu over Momo so much !
The fight scenes are amazing , and the humour is still great . But the best thing about it is Amon,I mean how cool is it that he can take bending away? I just love the whole "revolution"and anti bending theme and every episode with him just rocked and I can’t wait to see how this will end .
It wouldn’t surprise me at all at this point if it turned out that Tarrlok and Amon were one and the same…or that Tarrlok could be working for Amon, working inside the government to secretly advance Amon’s agenda, which he certainly seems to be doing. Now that we’ve found out Tarrlok could Blood-bend, Amon’s ability to take away someone’s bending ability could be an advanced combination of blood-bending and chi-blocking.
I think Tarrlok and Amon are two different people. Amon… he seems to be somebody extremely cold and calculating. Not that Tarrlok isn’t. But in the end of the episode he had that deranged look we got to see in Ozai by the end of ATLA: he’s been corrupted by power and he lost it there.
From the looks of it I think next week we should be getting some news from the Spirit World (is Koh related to this mess in any way?) and if I were to be thrown into the full fangirl state, Amon would be rescuing the Avatar
When people say they think Amon and Tarlok are the same person I get the feeling they didn’t get the show’s idea at all…
They are 2 different people . big villans , each representing 2 extremes : one being equality (or in our terms - communism) and the other one being a “police state” . each of those have a good motive , but in the end they do it wrong , and alot of times (as we learned through history) the leaders of such groups become corrupted .
Korra’s role in all of this is being the 3rd sie of the conflict , and bring balance . the city was build as something that would unite all nations , and she came there just in time to fix that eutopic idea .
See , I didn’t say interesting characters - I said likeable characters with my favorites being the same as yours . at this point (where are we now? like…10 episodes to the show?) I didn’t excpect every single character to have it’s own story and big moments . they all have their roles and importance as it is right now and I think it’s good enough…
the show had alot of interesting turns , from the moment we realized Amon can take bending away , Sato being disovered as an equalist , Toph’s daughter leaving the police force , Tarlock not only becoming a big villan , but also blood-bending , and getting his powers taken so soon , and ALOT more … with the biggest mystery being who is Amon . (and trust me I’ve heard spculations alot worse than that , some people actually said he was tralock , I just wish i could see the expression on their face when the two met last episode)
if you could predict all that then good for you , that means you read , or watch alot of stuff in your lifetime . (we predicted the key elements from the last t-cats episode too - so?) it doesn’t necessarily mean the show itself is doing anything wrong . I mean , it’s not like Zuko becoming a good guy was a big suprise either . Or Aang and Katara ending up together … the biggest “shocks” I ever had from that show (that I can remember) was when Aang grew some hair . or when Toph discovered metal bending . but then again , that happened alot later to the show . and that includes the deaths that you mentioned …
So back to Korra -
Like I said , the fight scenes were done alot better and longer than this season’s t-cats (I only compare the two on this because they air simultaneously) and while I agree with you they are not using their ful potential , the clashes ARE treated differently , and don’t just repeat what we had on the original show … which is a good thing . now we have groups of non benders uniting against benders , and there is alot at stake as they hold the power to take bending away , we got different elements working together (sometimes as criminals) metal benders (that sadly can’t use guns ) … the avatar not using air bending , or getting into the avatar state easily… etc
The love triangle stinks though because once again , a guy without any good reason , got 2 girls chasing him for shallow reasons . and he changes his mind constantly without even showing any emotion about it .
But other than that I really like Asami , she’s beautiful but like avatar always does - she’s more than eye candy , saying that is not fair . she is a racecar driver , and can defend herself . she financaly supported their team on the tournament at the start , and later on she stood up to her father , and joined their fighting team .
About Tenzin’s children (man I love this guy ) they are a bunch of weirdows and I guess you either like them or not …but the show’s strongest point in humour is not them - but the hilarious facial expressions the characters make . and the original show was really funny as well , but at times (as much as I loved it) I felt like it was too much . and the darker tone really fits the new show …
I just don’t find any characters besides Bolin, Korra, and Tenzin likeable. In the old series, a new character was introduced and was given tons of depth and emotion, even if it was only for one episode. In this it’s not the case.
Another HUGE thing I have against the series is the fact that they stay in the same place the whole time. When Korra got kidnapped, I was like “Yes! Finally a change of scenery!” But then she escaped (rather easily, considering Amon is the biggest threat in the show) and it was back to the same. Republic City is cool, but Ba Singh Se was much more interesting and they didn’t spend a whole season there.
And I personally like having the show happening in 1 place for a change . a quest around the world is not needed again (yet - anyway) . the whole idea of having a mixed “eautopic” city(thats how it was supposed to be) being in the need to be brought to balance is at the show’s core .
Plus , it’s funny how this is exactly the case with the story i’m writing - it starts off with someone traveling across the region . but the next “season” happens in the big city . I guess it’s what happends when you are tired of running around and want to settle . but just when you find a place that you can call a home - the fight isn’t over because you realize how many problems it has , and how difficult it is to keep the balance there .
looking at the characters in this show (especially - Tenzin’s familly) I think the creators are somwhere at that point in their life too . and it is the insparation behind it all .
They spent about half of a season there but my point was the whole show isn’t based around that one city.

This week’s episode was actually pretty good. First episode I thought could compare to the pilot. I’m pretty sure that is Zuko’s son/grandson, and it will be nice to see him in the show.
I did NOT like that Lin got her bending taken away. There was also a blooper I noticed. There are two flying bison when he and his family evacuate the island, and he jumps on a different one than what his family was on. Later, you see him in the bison with his family.
Yeah I didn’t like the fact they took her bending way to. But I see way they did it. and I did notice that bison scene to. And this episode also had it’s far share of humor to which I think the show was missing.
I can agree with that, but they have been completely neglecting Bolin for the last 5-6 episodes. For being the obvious source of comedy since the pilot, he has gotten minimal screentime and maybe a few lines here and there. The last time he had a good chunk of what went on in the episode was “The Spirit of Competition”, one of my favorite episodes despite the awful love triangle. The children/Pema are an okay source of comedy, but it’s starting to feel rather forced and out-of-place.
