True enough. That’s why when I did an article about the best cartoon theme songs a while back, I couldn’t stress enough that it was about the theme songs and not the shows. If the shows had been what I was judging, Visionaries would have featured, it’s an excellent show but with a very naff theme. Obviously there are some great shows with great themes, Thundercats, DuckTales and Prince Valiant being the obvious ones, but there are some themes that oversell the shows. Pole Position is one of the all-time great theme songs, but the show itself is a bit lacklustre.

In ThunderCats, Ho!: The Movie, the engine sound the HoverCat has is actually the one for Mandora’s Electracharger.
I love the theme song for Silverhawks, but the incidental music was wanting in my opinion. It was not nearly as varied or dynamic as Thundercats. In fact, most of the extra tracks Bernard Hoffer composed for Thundercats following season 1 were also not as good. It sorta seems like Bernard may have blown his proverbial wad with his Thundercats, season 1 music.

Slight update on the sound recording staff. In the later series, Tom Perkins is no longer there on the editorial side, he’s joined by Michael Ungar (also of Silverhawks) and John Crenshaw. All the other original names are still there though.
To analogise to a band lineup change, let’s see . . .

I know it lack a lot of pictures but there is such a wealth of information in it. All Thundercats fans should own it, otherwise they are really missing out.

David Crichton should be proud of himself for obtaining as much ThunderCats information as he possibly could.
Not just the theme music but the whole musical scores. Especially for Mysterious Cities of Gold. I worship that music. It’s Levy’s magnum opus. So many memorable themes. It’s a crime that the masters were left to decay, meaning we’re denied a full CD release. As it is, we’re lucky that we have the original album and all the re-recordings. I love the music so much I have to have every CD edition.
Here’s all the Levy music I have on CD so far. I hope for She-Ra at some point!

And of course Thundercats, which remains unreleased. I gather Warners has the rights to the music and don’t do anything quickly with regards to licensing.
It’s not by Levy but you should get the Star Fleet X-Bomber soundtrack. It was a cool show with great music.

Indeed, I’m aware of Bomber X. Must confess I’d never heard of it until I was looking up Levy’s CD output on Soundtrackcollecor.com.
I know Hoffer did Thundercats and not Levy, I was just taking a broad view of 80s cartoon music

Yes Bomber X is the French name. The UK soundtrack is far superior to the original Japanese theme music in my opinion.
I would love to get the Robotech soundtrack.

Levy’s work on the 80s cartoons is awesome. Who can forget “Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors”, “The Real Ghostbusters” and even “Mister T”.
